This would have been quite the smart addiction. I thought Nintendo wanted to tell us that they were were to put Daisy into a Super Mario game by her addition in Super Mario Run - looks like we've been fooled.

Not that it matters since the only reason those cats look different is because you have to bring them to their mother like they were penguins.

I mean the calico color design and choices are intended to reflect on Daisy's background. It's a cute reference and design choice made by a fan. I don't see the reason to compare it to an existing work and then come off as devaluing a thoughtful design?
