Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

I simultaneously love and hate Bowser Jr. fights. On one hand, I like them because they give more screen time to my favorite character. On the other hand, I'm forced to beat up my favorite character.

Hey it comes with liking a villain. But sometimes beating up a villain can be why we like them right?

There's just those bosses who are satisfying to kill, basically.

And those you like to see suffer.

Even those who become playable characters so you can you yourself dictate any stupid action they do that leads to their death!

I'd take it a step further, if you care about story then read a book or watch a movie. Video games don't have good stories. Period. Even the most praised video game stories have no depth at all.
ok boomer

If the next Paper Mario game doesn't get him right I'm perfectly fine with Bowser never appearing in another Paper Mario game for the rest of the series' existence.

Super Mario Party is a terrible Mario Party game. Star Rush is better.

I don't think it's terrible, it has a lot of steps it took forward (compared to the atrocious board mechanics of Mario Party 9 and 10) and the game is brimming with charm alone just from looking at the animations and how chill the characters are to each other. It's just that it has edges and ripples that need to be ironed out, namely Partner Party and better board design and how everything is too freaking cheap and they hand out coins like candy. I mean, I wanted DLC for Super Mario Party but from the looks of things, we're gonna just get another installment instead.

Mario Party is the Mario series's Dynasty Warriors. They get rehashed a lot and get nearly yearly releases but suckers like me eat it up by the wholes anyway because I love Mario Party.

Fun fact, the guy who directed most of the Mario Party games (Shuchiro Nishiya) is the head of Nd Cube now. Maybe this internal restructuring is why we didn't get a Mario Party this year. I hope we get another one next year.

Oh I like Star Rush a lot too. Coinathlon is really fun. The game does have the same board size issues as Super Mario Party and Balloon Bash still sucks (Partner Party's many problems stem from the fact that it's just Balloon Bash but with two players and that you need to land on a star to get it while).

If the next Paper Mario game doesn't get him right I'm perfectly fine with Bowser never appearing in another Paper Mario game for the rest of the series' existence.

Does this count a remake of Paper Mario on the N64 if they didn't get Bowser right on the main installment?

I've had a lot of fun playing it with friends, but compared to past Mario Parties, SMP is definitely lacking. It has some cool ideas. I like the character dice, and Partner Party is a fun spin on things. Fully playable Bowser is nice for a change. But yeah, it needs a lot. At least Nintendo got rid of the car.

I really prefer Bowser as the antagonist NPC in Mario Party games. Kamek simply lacks the oomph Bowser has, and I just enjoy Bowser fucking with all playable characters especially with that savage dialogue of his, generally speaking.

If Bowser must be playable, then I think Dry Bowser would be a good replacement for him, as he can be the same guy, just dry.

See, that's the problem. Bowser is the best antagonist for the series, but also I want to be able to play as him anytime. The struggle is real.

I've edited my post before yours, but I did suggest using Dry Bowser. Or, they can make a new villain altogether. Mario Party games always made-up the good guys and hosts, strange they never come up with bad guys. Maybe aside from the Koopa Kids.

Dry Bowser as the antagonist is a good idea, but it would be kind of weird. Imagine the dialogue that would happen if Bowser landed on a Dry Bowser space. Speaking of which, what is Dry Bowser's relationship to Bowser? Are they confirmed to be different people? 🤔

As for original characters, I'd want to see someone with an eccentric personality kind of like Fawful's. It would help keep those goofy Mario Party vibes going.

I think it would make it funnier if Dry Bowser had dialogue specific for Bowser. I mean, they did give Bowser unique dialogue for Jr. in Island Tour; little touches like that are nice.

Idk what is Dry Bowser's relationship to Bowser. He's like Baby Luigi. Or Metal Mario. He's just inexplicably there as his own separate character with zero context. The Mario series loves doing something like that. I think an explanation would be nice but I also don't mind the bizarre character duplicates either.

If there's a new eccentric character, I'd want for him to be host, rather than Toad and Toadette (who should have been playable in Super Mario Party to begin with). The last time we had someone like that was Mario Party 8's Ballyhoo. Frankly, I find the colored Toads as hosts in 9, Island Tour, 10, etc. very bland and boring and don't really have a personality. Tumble, Toadsworth, Brighton, and Twila also had their own ways of talking too which made them interesting as well.

Fawful could work as a Mario Party host. We don't have a malicious one yet and I think he'd be funny as one, forced to be nice at times, but laughs at people's expense, sort of like Koopa Kid from Bowser's Nightmare from Mario Party 4.

Speaking of which, what is Dry Bowser's relationship to Bowser? Are they confirmed to be different people? 🤔
Island Tour says yes, NSMB and MP10 say no. Conflicting reports here.

My personal headcanon is that, after NSMB, Kamek saw the potential in a skeletal Bowser and created a species of skeletal Bowser clones (with the Island Tour one being one of them).

Does this count a remake of Paper Mario on the N64 if they didn't get Bowser right on the main installment?

Well if they want to remake the first game I won't stop em but he's never remotely been able to live up to that first game.

Also since Mario Party is nothing but doing terrible things to your friends and relatives pretending to be family fun the next Mario Party hosts should be like Damon Killian from The Running man.

I can imagine why people hate it: it's overloaded with discordant guitars before it loops, and the background riff at the beginning just seems really repetitive and overpowering. It also loops really early. I wouldn't say it's anywhere near Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's abominable Battle Course 1 or Luigi's Mansion, though.

I don't. They'll probably just be more generic pretty girl types because Japan loves that shit.
