Super Mario 3D All-Stars

But hey, That's just a theory. A GAME THEORY. THANKS FOR READING. All jokes aside, I actually can't wait to play Mario 64 for the rest of this year, then play Sunshine next summer. Or 3D World + Bowser's Fury. I can't decide!

So in Super Mario 64 Bowser is gay. In super Mario sunshine he has a son who is his son by blood so that means he is not.
i mean jr coulda been created with magic and might literally just not have a mom LMAO
bowser being bi would actually make the most sense with him having shown to have a crush on peach like. a Lot

I actually wanna see how many new players will be surprised that lot of elements used in Smash, Odyssey, etc. originated in one of these games (such as the current design for Peach's Castle/Melee stage, Slider theme, Mario's back throw, F.L.U.D.D., Petey Piranha, Shadow Mario, Star Bits, Launch Star, and even Bowser Jr. and Rosalina themselves) lol

I wonder how many people are nostalgic for Sunshine and then realize how terrible collecting the blue coins are and they're like...oh.

For me, in Galaxy, it's the thought of doing that trash clearing mission again or Luigi's Purple Coins or Slingpod Galaxy.

yeah i liked slingpod galaxy
i also enjoyed luigi's purple coins, it wasn't THAT hard for me but then again i never even tried it as a kid
i think hard isn't necessarily hand-in-hand with infuriating, ideally a game is the former when it needs to be but not all the time, and avoid the latter as much as possible

It's been a while since I last played Galaxy in general but I found Slingpod ridiculously difficult in one part of it. I think just before the star with a bunch of fire bars? It's also pretty bullet hellish.

Luigi's Purple Coins I also remember being...egh.

The Perfect Run is also something I don't want to do again. It's a Frankenstein's monster of recycled assets where the level is purposefully long without any checkpoints whatsoever so you waste a lot of time going through the first parts again just to get to the part you screwed up in. It's not a fun level. None of the levels in its archetype are. I dislike Mario games that put a ridiculous difficulty spike in very long levels like that in the last level of the game.

I don't dislike all challenging levels in Mario games. For example, Valley Fortress in Super Mario World is a lot of fun. I also think Mystery House Marathon in 3D World is all right. World 8 levels in the New Super Mario Bros. games tend to be fun. (Rainbow Ride in 64 is boring because you spent 60% of the level riding a super slow magic carpet and you don't even know what carpet to take in the first time you play through a level; it's the worst level in the game since it plays against 64's strengths of being exploration-based)

Yeah, that part really sucks. For the most part though, I like Slingpod Galaxy.

why didnt i post here until now?

first of all HOO BOY the rumors were true! i still can't believe it, because nintendo rumors and leaks are fake most of the time (i still dont rely on them tho and just wait for nintendo to reveal if theyre real or not).

anyway, imma share my thoughts on the collection:

mario 64 looks CLEAN! the UI looks so much better than it did back then, the textures look much better as well, and i think the sounds are less compressed, though i'm not sure. the one bad thing i can say about this version of mario 64 is that so long gay bowser is gone and i'm still sad.

mario sunshine definitely looks better than it did on the gamecube, but it's not such a big difference. like, you'd need to compare the two versions to notice the improvements. just like mario 64, the UI also looks significantly better. i can't say much else cause i havent played sunshine yet

mario galaxy is my favorite game of all time, so you know i'm happy about the fact that i'll be able to play it on a more sophisticated hardware. while the updated graphics look even less noticeable than sunshine, and the UI doesn't look very different, i'm slightly worried about this one. i'm still not sure how the cursor will work, like, i know the joycons can work like a wiimote and nunchuk, but what about the pro controller, which i'm pretty much sure will control the cursor with the right analog stick or the dpad (it could also use gyro controls like captain toad but i cant be sure about that)? also apparently the handheld version of the game uses touchscreen, which sounds clunky af. yeah captain toad had that, but the gameplay was more slow paced so it worked, and with a game like mario galaxy, it doesnt sound like the way i'd play the game.

i think it deserves the 60$ price tag. i know people complain about that, but honestly, the one switch game that should have gotten complains because of the price is new super mario bros u deluxe. not just is it an inferior game (its also just ONE game, i guess technically 2 because theres luigi u), but the only new addition is one new character. so people who own the wii u version with the dlc have to pay 60 bucks just for one character, while mario 3d all stars is 3 games that are practically legendary. might be an unpopular opinion but i really think people should shut up about the price and accept it as it is.

so yea. overall, i'm really excited to play 3d marios other than odyssey on the switch, and even though i played most games in this collection, i'm buying it.

also sling pod galaxy sucks ass. just thought i'd throw that in

I said this 10 years ago and I'll say it again, Slingpod Galaxy isn't difficult. If you can dodge a wrench the cannons you can dodge a ball the firebars.

Really not sure why people are comparing this collection to the crash and spyro remakes.

Apart from the pricing, it completely ignores the fact that those remakes are of 3 games that all play extremely similarly, came out in the same generation and often recycling assets for each new game (as do the remakes) whereas this collection is from 3 games across 3 generations of devices.

Now I'm not going to get into whether or not it's worth the $60 price tag (if you ask me it should be about $40 at most) but I think comparing full on remakes to remasters is rather silly.

Not to mention the 3D Mario games are literally some best video games of all time.

The graphical do-over then at least justifies their existences. These remakes, with the timer for the bundle (rumor says they'll be sold separately later to be fair but) souring this even more, are basically their solution for their lack of a retro games library which in combination, I personally still find very cynical.

They aren't remakes. A remake implies they were rebuilt from the ground up, these are remasters.

To be fair, the distinction between 'remake' and 'remaster' can be kinda blurred at times.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Ocarina of Time 3D built using the original N64 game code as its basis, hence why most (all?) of the non game-breaking bugs are still in it.

So is that a remaster? Or does the improved graphics and models push it over to a remake?

Is there really an established difference between something being a remake or a remaster? I've heard both terms used for the Spyro/Crash remakes based on the text surrounding them.

I would've believed you but a post from Glowsquid recently made me question the distinction. I'm kinda a stickler for words so uh
*mumble*"remaster" as applied to video games is a clumsy misappropriation of film terminology and pr obscurantism for the fact most early xbox one and ps4 games were PC-middle setting versions of years old games. it's just a fancy way of saying "port" *mumble mumble*

They bugs are still in there because they wanted it to be as close to the original.

That notion is completely ludicrous from a developer point of view.

Should clarify that by "bugs" they mean those types of glitches and things that speed runners would use, not like, actual gamebreaking glitches that would fuck you over.

It's still ludicrous to think they'll keep flaws of game design for a speedrunners benefit regardless. Usually if they don't patch bugs, it means it's not that much of a big deal to patch rather than intentionally leave them in there for a niche portion of their audience.

To be fair though, that is kinda what happened (well not so much for speedrunners benefit) but for people who played the old game and would remember the less harmful bugs, so they could show them to their friends and it was only because the staff wanted them to be kept in because the bugs 'were fun'.

Not the first time developers have done it. One of the more famous examples I can think of is the giants in skyrim, when they kill you your body glitches out and flies several hundred feet into the air, they were going to patch it but people loved it so much it became canon to the world that giants could do that.
