I'm curious how many of these apply to me… Rate how obnoxious i seem, i guess?
Still speculates about Galaxy 3 in 2025
I'd given up hope for a good decade, there, but i guess it's inarguable that i'm doing it in 2025.
For me, it really felt like the gravity mechanics were the next step for this series, comparable to the 3D leap with
64. I was just confused as later games kept rolling back the atmosphere and ignoring the gravity system in favor of land-locked homogenization.
Galaxy 2 proved that so much more can be done in this gameplay style while leaving so much potential on the table. I can't let myself believe it would just be squandered.
With that said, i'm also kind of dreading the idea of it happening soon. I don't want to have to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 to avoid getting spoiled on a game I've wanted for 15 years. At the same time, if this blows over with no
Galaxy 3 in sight, i would have to go through losing hope all over again, and that prospect sounds painful.
Bought Galaxy a second time on 3D All-Stars, and a THIRD time in the recent Galaxy bundle
Nope, i take issue with both of those releases and i try to stick by my principles. I already have the game, i don't need it on my Switch.
Thinks the September 12th Direct was one of the best in recent memory
I've already forgotten it. What else did they even announce in that one? The $100 Virtual Boy replica that becomes a paperweight without an additional subscription service? Riiiight…
Will say 70 dollars for the Galaxy remasters is crazy, but unironically bought it joyfully
Nope. Like i said, i'd consider not having a spine for
Galaxy 3, and that would still be a painful decision. I don't need to shell out a premium for games i already own, with a few minor features i'm not gonna use.
Has no problem with the Mario Movie sequel skipping Super Mario World
I find it difficult to get behind the film series after the first one fell short of, like… having a finished plot. But even then, i do chafe with them skipping straight to this. Where do they even go from there?
Will say Galaxy 1 has the best story in Nintendo video games, and in some cases all video games
I couldn't say that. As much as I like it, a good chunk of it is just the standard
Mario story taking itself more seriously, and it mostly uses vibes and side content, rather than actual plot development, to set up for the crazy ending. The big UFO that cuts Peach's Castle out of the ground never shows up again. Bowser kind of sits around waiting to get beat up and then gloat that it has no effect on his big master plan; a few intermission cutscenes focusing on what he's up to, like in the RPGs, could have done a lot.
I think what they have is more than effective enough, but if i can come up with all this critique within a few minutes, i'd guess the story isn't as impressive to people who weren't as hooked on the game. They can and should go even harder
Rosalina is their favorite Mario character
She must be up there in terms of actual characterization—it's amazing what a bit of mystique and backstory can do, isn't it?—but there are so many fun designs that have been on my mind much more. Maybe Rosalina was my favorite at the time, but she loses a lot of her spark as a recurring character when most of her appearances are going to treat her as interchangeable with every other playable option, and at that point i'm way more drawn to all the cute reptiles and most other nonhuman shapes. There are plenty of other characters that have both depth and more interesting designs, so the favorite status would probably go to one of them.
Can't stand Miyamoto's view on story in games
Historically, sure. I probably misjudged his actual stance, and i'm trying to learn from things like that and stop railing against scapegoats.
How (and whether) you handle story in games depends on the kind of game you're making. Certainly story isn't important in
Tetris or
Suika Game or a lot of non-video games. I think, having enjoyed
Galaxy on so many levels, i stopped seeing eye-to-eye with Nintendo on the kind of game a
Super Mario platformer should be and the level of story it warrants. Subjective, whose issue that is.
Makes fun of Sunshine fans
I still don't quite fully get the appeal of the game on a gut level, but that hardly gives me the urge to go to war with its fans or flood Tenor with insulting GIFs or anything. I've probably done a bit of ribbing on occasion, the same kind i do for a lot of things i'm not actively a fan of.
Sunshine may not be a direction for the series that makes much sense to me, but i don't see much harm in people liking it. I wouldn't be against more
Sunshine-style content, in the hopes that it at least wouldn't have to be rushed out like the original game. The fans probably deserve better treatment from Nintendo if anything.
Gets pissed when someone doesn't care for the storybook lore
Kind of? I do think that was what tied the first game together, and i really appreciate the depth it adds. I find it upsetting that not everyone holds the same appreciation for it. It is a big part of why my personal opinion on
Galaxy 2 has plummeted over the years. I don't think the sequel literally needed another storybook—it's kind of funny that they went that route—just, anything to provide a comparable level of depth or emotional resonance or character focus.
I'm really annoyed by the general argument of "Who plays
Mario games for the story or characters?" when the main series and RPGs had been expanding their focus and skill at it, up until the sudden 180° in the 2010s. I love the world of this series. Is it not allowed a sense of depth and verisimilitude just because it's marketable and happened to originate in a time where basic story details had to be saved for instruction manuals? Why should the franchise rest on its laurels and bow to the preconceptions of an uncaptivated public?
If there were specific criticism of how the side story was written or handled, i would be interested in that critique. But it only seems to be criticized for what it stands for… despite that being completely optional to engage with. The game doesn't "need" audio, either; if you don't care for that extra axis of cohesion having been added in the first place, is it not enough to press Mute, and let the music and sound design reach the players it will speak to?
I suppose i am getting a bit impassioned, writing this, but i'd argue it's scarcely about the storybook itself. The book is synecdoche for a greater clash of preferences on the role and imposition of story in this series. We're talking around its actual contents, here.
Probably already pre-ordered the physical release of Rosalina's Storybook
I do want it. Haven't preordered.
Probably believed all the fake leaks of the Galaxy movie when they first dropped
I must not have had a finger on the pulse, here. No clue what fake leaks you're referring to.
Probably mains Rosalina in every game she's available in
Like i said, Rosalina's playable appearances are way less interesting to me, and i usually go for other characters. I think she's actually my least favorite character to play as in
3D World. The aspects i like so much about the character don't translate in those ways.
