Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The same also applies to shells circling you.

Discovered that you can still get hit with a shell with 3 bananas circling your kart...

They're not really the best defense, they spin too slowly. Too many times have I rammed into Wario with Triple Bananas and I just bumped into him rather than spinning him out.

Red Shells can end up below your character, completely bypassing all of your defenses. Even Green Shells can bypass your defenses if they're aimed just right.

That's online lag for you. I've had triple items a good number of times and ram into other players, but lag can make them unaffected.

No....I don't even play online.....??????

Those gaps from the triple bananas really are too big.

Body frame sizes can play a factor as well. I do recall how in Mario Kart Wii, the triple shells make better shields for the small racers than for the large racers.

Seriously, why did they have to ruin the triple bananas like that?

And the triple mushrooms, they ruined them more in my opinion. They made it, so if somebody bumps into one of your mushrooms, they get a boost. I believe if the player can strategically time the bump into you, they can take shortcuts without the need of a mushroom.

On the bright side, if you strategically bump into someone will you have triple mushrooms, you could possibly send them over the edge of the track? (I haven't tried any of this myself). Also, you don't loose any of your mushrooms when you bump into someone.

I'm guessing that Nintendo did this, so people know you have triple mushrooms by looking at your character (like the other items), but if they wanted to do that, they could've just made the character juggle the mushrooms like in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.

IKR to all of you. I actually lost a Grand Prix because of Triple Bananas circling around me instead of being lined up once. It was me against my brother, the fourth race at Shy Guy Falls. Whichever of us beat the other in this race would win in the Grand Prix. I was ahead, but right at the end, he got Triple Red Shells while I got Triple Bananas. They failed to protect me and I lost. :'(

I like the change to the triple mushrooms at least, I'm good at stealing speed boosts like that

The triple bananas not trailing behind in a straight line is the only real disappointment /but/ at the same time I don't really mind being able to actually kill someone who's hoarding bananas as opposed to whittling them away shell by shell while they stay in first and get more bananas

I'm gonna miss that mechanic though. Always in Mario Kart Wii, when I was in first place, the best item I could get was the triple banana, because it granted the best defense you can have in first place, as you can avoid being hit by three red shells. It was still annoying trying to hit the racer in first place while they had that item, but at least that proves it was efficient. But based on what I hear about spinning bananas, I think I will need a lot of time to get used to MK8 mechanics.

I remember back when I played Mario Kart 8 I would just drop one of the 3 bananas behind me as the red shell got close to intercept it if I wasn't mid-air.

I do this too but sometimes that shell seems to swerve around the banana :(

Unless I'm the one who fired the shell. In that case it usually hits any stray banana or shell on the track.

I advice you to throw the banana behind you just before you get hit. It's risky, but it pays off.

Play Double Dash to get practice with that.

Just checked new stats to compare some builds, and I see...

Baby Rosalina + Circuit Special + Slick + Wario WingBowser + BiddyBuggy + Roller + Peach Parasol
Speed3.253.25
Acceleration2.754.5
Weight2.753.5
Handling43.25
Traction1.752.75
Mini Turbo2.54.5

So max speed Baby Rosalina can't even be faster than min speed Bowser, has slighly more handling but is worse at everything else. Yeah, so why pick a lightweight.

It's the game developers' way of telling you that they fucked up with Baby Rosalina.

Or just use the parts that look the best 8)

17 vs. 21.75; a very huge stat total difference between the two.

The stat total difference between those two combos was less extreme in Mario Kart 8 (18.75 vs. 21.75), but it should probably be noted that the slowest vehicle parts have stronger stat totals than the fastest vehicle parts.

Like with Mario Kart 8, I made a Google Drive spreadsheet for some characters and combinations. One combo for 50cc-150cc, and one special combo for 200cc. Except this time I gave myself 2 combos for 200cc.

For 200cc, I have two characters I can choose from. These combinations are focused more on control than speed (200cc has enough of that already).

It took forever and a half to properly copy'n'paste that table. Ugh.

EDIT: I forgot to list Baby Daisy's tires.
EDIT 2: I apparently copied my MK8 Roy stats instead of MK8D Roy stats. They're the same parts, though. Anything else I missed?
