Which Powerups would you like to see return?

No poll because there's so many to think about…

Anyways, there's so many Powerups in the Mario universe, but some of them only appeared in one game and maybe a few more. Which would you like to see make a comeback? I personally want to see the Gold Flower again. It's so fun to turn everything to gold WHILE you're golden!

think thread's about done now. mayyyyybe put something like King Dragon Wario in a game? idk i can't think of any other fan-favorite old power-ups

if the thread isn't limited to just power-ups that haven't appeared in 15+ years, then i'd like to see tanooki mario in every platformer

Blue Shell, like the one in New Super Mario Bros. Whatever they did in Super Mario 3D World isn't the same since it relies on Koopa Troopas to exist to use it and you can't use it outside that.

I would enjoy a return of the NSMB DS Blue Shell.

I wouldn't mind the Cloud Flower coming back, either. It felt fun to use, has all the exploration-encouraging energy of the various flight power-ups while not blowing the lid open on levels quite as much, and differentiates itself by making temporary platforms.

You might have to dial it back a bit, but I could even see it translating to 2D well enough.

I hope we get the Drill Mushroom back too. Is it probably the least useful of Wonder's power-ups? Sure. Does it also feel charming and satisfying to use in my books? You bet it does.
 
If these count, I hope that a lot of the worn items, like the Propeller Box, Gold Block, Buzzy Shell, and Bullet Bill Mask, continue to appear. I've always had a soft spot for them that I find difficult to explain, though maybe I need not, given that the Goomba's Shoe is a fan favorite. Also, the Dry Bones Shell specifically is extremely versatile and it'd better not be confined to SMM2, I want a mainline game where certain Dry Bones drop it.

Since the Red Star and Cloud Flower have already been vouched for, the Bee and Boo Mushrooms are also really cool. They never felt that connected to Galaxy—Bee Mario's honeycombs arguably kind of act as a secondary gravity, I guess?—so it would be nice to see them reappear.

It'd be neat to see the Double Cherry used more. I do think it's a tough fit for less streamlined platformers than 3D World (maybe it would work a bit more like the Pal Pill?) …but there's still a lot of potential in spinoffs. Three Mario & Luigi games already feature cloning mechanics, so I think there's a demand. Plus, the cherry design hearkens back to SMB2 and even arcade games like Pac-Man, so it has a classic appeal like the mushrooms, flowers, and other franchise-wide mainstays.

At least for Super Mario Maker, the Mystery Mushroom should return. Though mostly aesthetic, it inspired a lot of courses, and the costumes were fun to collect and use. It was sorely missing from the sequel. If they wanted to add more full-on character movesets like Link's, they should've done more than the one; for lack of that, I'm hoping the original idea isn't shelved.

And if I can go completely wacky for a moment, I would like the Grappling Vine to be reworked into a powerup, and I've always wanted the same for the Volt Mushroom (although that would also fit as a flower).

SMG Ice Mario was awesome, I wish they'd bring that back.

While I agree, admittedly it might be a bit light on functionality and I'd rather they find a way to synthesize it with the untimed Ice Mario. Like, keep the projectiles and icy material, but have him skate instead of dashing, like Ice Kirby, and tweak the freezing mechanics so he can enter water.
