Yeah, I don't see why they had to remove it aside from cutting corners.
 
I liked using the Waluigi costume, it was the closest I had to Waluigi in a platformer.
 
Hey it's still not out of the realm of possibility they re-add it in an update. They did say more course parts were coming, and maybe they needed time to get the licensing sorted out for the 3rd party costumes. Or they're trying to implement them in 3/World too with unique sprites, which would take longer to make.
 
man id LOVE costumes to be back!!! but im just not expecting them anymore since they werent in the base game
they were really charming its sad to see them just be gone for some reason
 
I managed to upload a 46th course in SMM2. You have to use the POW Blocks in order to get the Magikoopas not trigger those On/Off Switches.

This has got to be the most incredibly unique power-up they've come up with. Bombs, bow and arrow, sword, dash attack from Link's Awakening, down thrust! This may help restart my SMM2 addiction.
 
ya im pretty excited!! and i just realised i . Still dont have the game. i guess ill only end up getting it around new year
 
Now this is the shit I like to see. Solid update all around. I also didn't even know I wanted them to essentially start making an official Super Mario Crossover... but now that the door's been opened, sure, why not (but only secondary to adding as much diversity in the enemies/items/blocks as possible.) Damn, that Master Sword item really basically added a new game altogether.

I still hope they do some important fixes/quality of life changes to the existing mechanics before going crazy with the new ones (namely adding Fire Bros/Porcupuffers to all modes, adding normal Bowser to the 3D World setting, allowing rising water/lava in all level themes, and making the gameplay changes upon entering night mode optional.)
 
i stopped playing mario maker 2 pretty early on mainly because joycon drift turned level-making into a much more tedious process than it should be, but i just got some new joycons so this update is perfectly timed
the new items look pretty good, although some of them made me think "it wasnt in the game already?" like pokey and p blocks
also the master sword is a way better alternative to the mystery mushroom, even if it only lets you use one new character instead of like a hundred
 
I'm supposing that they cut Costume Mario because of two main reasons:

1. It could potentially wreak havoc on multiplayer levels
2. Link, as well as possibly other characters being added later on
 
Played a bunch of levels with the new mechanics over the weekend. Really good stuff. Need to make a Link level for sure!

This one is a course related to The Game Awards 2019 because I did seen alot of Nintendo fans weren't happy without a single 1st Party content announced and I made the course so that Mario can fix the event so that Nintendo fans will enjoy it.

Nice they added the Pokeys (which was a prominent character, that debuted with SMB2), but I wonder why they added the new Ninji game (considered a new "mode"), but didn't take the opportunity to add SMB2. Is it really that hard to convert? (Harder than 3DW was?) I notice that when the new Link powerup throws the bomb, it sounds just like SMB2. (forgot if that's how it sounded in the Zelda game).
I hope that and the Pokeys are not supposed to be a nod to SMB2, that will "represent" the game, and that will be the closest we ever get to it. (I also noticed, they at some point added to SMB1 those green semisolid mounds that resemble the ones from SMB2).
 
I'm guessing Super Mario Bros 2 plays so radically different (though why they prioritized 3D world, beats me) so that's why there's an enemy notable from it (in Pokey's case, it has solid appearances in Super Mario Bros. 3 and World and New Super Mario Bros.) Note we do have Bob-Ombs, which also debut in Super Mario Bros. 2.
 
I don't have SMM2 yet nor have I played SMB2 but I think it would be a shame to leave it out as it looks kinda interesting even if it's not as popular as the classics either side.

I think they did 3D World as that game was pretty popular considering how much the Wii U wasn't, and it's not been ported to the Switch so they did it to get extra attention and sales.

As Ninjis and Pokeys (especially the latter) have become recurring enemies in the series, I definitely don't feel like their inclusion directly eliminates the possiblility of SMB2 becoming a "makeable" style simply because they appear in it. Same opinion with the sound effect and semisolid - they are much too coincidental to really mean anything. Some game developers add hints pointing to upcoming games/updates/DLC/what-have-you, but Nintendo hasn't usually done that in that past. (Speaking of which, while I definitely feel like a 3D World port will happen at some point, but because of previously-stated reasons I don't think SMM2 is a hint toward it.)
