Other unnanounced characters:

Bosses:

Actually, Miis aren't on the list. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't in the final game - they are part of the Wii/Wii U era Nintendo seems to be trying to leave behind.

My guess about Iggy's ship being in but Larry Koopa not despite him being a tennis player is that they want to keep the RPGs as a seaparate entity now - Larry can be a tennis player in SSS but that tells nothing about the Larry in the Super Mario games and the games inspired by them.
A similar reason why Ludwig isn't there as well despite him knowing Table Tennis - Mario & Sonic is its own thing.
Wendy might have remained as a way to keep the male/female ratio but I guess she isn't high in the priority list of Nintendo and possibly the most vocal Mario fans...
 
Maybe that explains why Junior has the Magic Paintbrush in spinoff games, despite how II Piantissimo picked it up at the end of Mario Sunshine.

I'm surprised people want to get rid of Miis. It's nice to have the option of a customizable avatar that can be used across multiple games.
 
Personally I want to get rid of them, because I never liked them.

Regardless, this game is shaping up phenomenally.
 
Where's Buster Beetle in the roster? Such a beloved character...He's been in so many games! Remember New New New Super Mario Bros. Genesis?
 
Saw someone online suggest that Petey has a lot more voice clips than a boss normally would have. Maybe he'll finally be playable again.
 
Could make him a defensive character instead. Like how Dry Bowser is a defensive character.
 
digging through the sound data , i was able to find not only voice clips for ''Dark'' Luigi, Wario and Waluigi.

There's also a ''Dark'' Bowser as well.

That sounds pretty bad, even for old Bowser imo. Sounds like he's reading "Rarr Rarr" from a script :/

And I really hope they don't once again find an excuse for some form of Bowser to be the final boss, they have a chance to do something interesting with Wario and Waluigi here please don't blow it

I'm honestly more disappointed that they're reusing Scott Burns' voice clips. I can deal with Rosalina and Bowser Jr. reusing clips, but Bowser is just inexcusable. Kenny James' voice is too good not to use.
 
even if that wasnt the point , Rosalina's voice is still the most different leap between the 3 characters, the end.

And yes, Bowser is hinted to be final boss , but possesed by the racket like Luigi, Wario and Waluigi.

And is it really even a big deal if there are a lot of power characters? It's a Mario tennis game, balance is of little priority.

Your comparison to Dry Bowser falls flat given that he has never been a power character, thats my point.

Petey does not fit in that category at all and it would make 0 sense for him to be on that.

In the end, given the info that i have gathered everything points out he isnt gonna be playable so this convo is a dead end.
 
Bowser is a power character, somebody with the same body structure as him is a defensive character instead.

Not to mention that Petey is huge, his body shape is perfect for defense.
