post any random Mario thought on your mind

mario's time machine is probably the only mario game in which mario gives a backscratcher to an english-speaking hotel owner in 1824 vienna so that he can give beethoven's monocle as a reward so that it can be given to a nearsighted beethoven fanboy and music vendor so that he doesn't need to go to his appointment with his eye doctor so that he says a couple of lines about beethoven's past

i'm still unsure if this is the dumbest or the greatest

edit: added a very important detail

Sounds like Mario's Time Machine has the darkest meta-narrative of any Nintendo game : Mario must run fool's erands and surrender priceless cultural artifacts to goad easily-accessed information from terrible, broken people.

the biggest issue with this game is that mario is apparently violently allergic to any history books, because he travels back in time first and worries about his actual goal later, literally surfing his way through space in time without knowing even the first thing about what artifact he's carrying

and his only source of information is from random strangers who are perfectly fine with speaking a foreign language to a red-and-blue short man and telling them the entire backstory of their neighbour/resident future famous person

and you need to talk to everyone and make sure you've jotted down everything they've said; one guy literally says "hey that's obvs the shield of that famous person you should return that asap" (word-for-word what he said), but you can only return it after you've taken a quill pen from an antitheist scribe and given it to a war commander so that he can give you a random piece of his horse's equipment so that you can deliver it to the local horsemaster so that he can say far more than he should

and there's also one point where you absolutely need to return the precious artifact of an apple to isaac newton despite there being nothing special about the apple and despite newton having already done everything involving the apple and despite there already being a tree full of apples ten feet away from isaac but they don't count because they're in the background

i want to bite this apple and throw it at windows

There is a late box art artist named Greg Martin, who drew some memorable US-centric boxart. He mostly did Sega-related art, especially Sonic, but on occasion also did some for Nintendo systems with the third-party entries. If you want a sample of box art, here's the link: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=117907

What I am getting at is that I would love to see how Greg Martin handles the box art of a Mario game, because I loved that style. It evokes the spirit of fun in a different (Western-centric) way. Think of the difference between the Ratchet & Clank box art between America and Japan.

Thanks for reading.

I imagine the Snow Brothers boxart, but just with Mario and Luigi on top of those snow people.

^lmao that Mario is Missing discussion. I need to save that somewhere.

So it just occurred to me lately that this artwork

actually originated in Mario Party 6 rather than New Super Mario Bros.

Geez, Mario Party deserves more credit for how often it makes great individual character illustrations that end up being associated with more mainstream games.

The Daisy recolor thing is STILL stupid

I recently made Mario and Luigi's voicemail in my fanfic.

:mario: Hello! It's-a me, Mario!
:luigi: Don't forget Luigi! Please leave us a message at the tone, and we'll call you back as soon as we can. Unless your message is rude. Waluigi.
:mario: Bye-bye!

I think I may be too entertained by it.
