We have to know that there are hundreds of Mario games to date. If we have to promote every original character, the argument would never cease.

As mentioned many times, simply in the aspect of story, they don't have major role in the whole Marioverse but only one game they made debut. Only some special case like species characters might work I think.

And in this Baseball roster example, the characters can be hardly join any existed teams since they haven't built relationships with the major characters. I's reasonable to complain that the relationship between RPG stories and major spinoffs shouldn't be totally cut off. But just don't try to force it.
 
I kind of hope Sprixies will be players in the next Mario Baseball, if there ever is one... And Rosalina becomes a team captain. And the Koopalings are playable, of course! ;)

Most characters are great choices in a Mario Baseball game.

Gimme Metal Mario, Pink Gold Peach, Rosalina, and Fly Guy. And some more. Super Sluggers should get every nonguest character that has been playable in a kart or sporting game.

My old roster has too many DK characters.
This is not Donkey Kong Baseball, it's just Mario Baseball.
I think Lanky, Cranky are enough newcomers.

First: Donkey, Diddy, Dixie
Second: FIRST, Funky, Tiny, King K. Rool, Kritter
New: Lanky, Cranky

Cranky Kong is playable character in DKC:TF.
Koopalings got playable debut in Mario Kart 8.

Flying Yoshi is the exact same Yoshi, it's like adding Masked Dede in Smash 5 as a separate character from King Dedede. The Baby Bros at least resemble some differences from the adult bros because...well...they're fucking babies! Flying Yoshi is the exact same Yoshi just with wings it makes no sense
