As I get back into Smash Bros and maining K. Rool once more, I'm finding some bread-and-butter combos that work on most CPUs (live players not yet tested).
1) High-Up Blunderbuss: Shooting off Blunderbuss in the air, then falling through a platform to suck up your opponent can sometimes send them right into the line of fire of the original cannonball, if it hadn't despawned yet.
2) Crown-a-buss: Another I've started is doing Crownarang on the ground to bring opponents closer, then shooting off the Blunderbuss after the first hit.
Still working on it tho. Did 7 matches (I think?) and only lost one. I was on randoms Level 9, and round 3 was against Diddy Kong. I then proceed to get DK himself in round 4, then lose after coming back (Got downed 2-1 at ~60%, then held it together until 1-1 at each 100%. Lost to an aerial...) in a miracle. Cinema match.
I am planning on playing through the original DKC on SNES Classics to get the experience, I'm a few levels in already. Can't wait to experience the whole thing for the first time
The one-two combo of "Annotate the following x pages of the Kami document" and "Write a CERER essay about similar topics" is the one I dislike the most right now. Hey, I can use annotation later to label code, so I know what the world it does, so some usage for annotation skills
I have "beaten" the Emerald Rush DLC but turns out I'm not even 20% done with it. Guess I can contribute to the WIP pages for it now, but this DLC is so freakin' fun. High score in one round is like 317k for this current event and something near on DK Island. I can beat Difficulty 5 (which is my point farming method) but I'm struggling on 6. Time to unlock all the layers to play it on : D
Also, a small thing I either noticed in Bananza or I am convincing myself I'm crazy and hearing something different.
Once unlocking the Elephant Bananza, turn off lyrics (which also disables the Bananza themes) and go to the Groove Layer post-music rebuild or DK Island's turntables if you own the DLC. I swear that the slight sound effect behind the Elephant's inhale ability can be tied to the music, like the Fractone's noises lining up with it too. I'll upload videos of what I mean eventually, but it could be added to the Trivia page if not already.
One of my favorite things about the Returns era of Donkey Kong is the Rocket Barrel levels, since their music is so great I would play them over and over, and now I've discovered the Smash Bros remix of Gear Getaway so hooray
With a final time of 1:33:34.2 in-game and 1:39:24 out-game, the run is done! Pizza Tower won after a tie between it and Wheel, and wheel spin picked Spin the Wheel, which ultimately landed on PT.
My first pixel art animation test with a specific palette so I can see that I know what im trying to do before I start making animations so a ball bouncing on a platform
I will bring the results back once the run is done over there, but currently there is 9 votes, being:
3 to Pizza Tower and the Wheel
2 to Mystery Competitor
1 to Bananza
So I'm sure the Wheel will be spun, and there will be no weights on it as it was a tie and not a solo win
Is spun even grammatically correct? It doesn't even sound like an actual word to me
I'll be running another speedrun tomorrow in a Discord. Which game should I do? (multiple votes allowed)
Donkey Kong Bananza (custom route)
Pizza Tower (any%)
Mystery Competitor (any%)
Spin the Wheel (random of the above)
I'll be doing any% as normal, but some tweaks. First, I'll stop by Freezer to grab Zebra, but then immediately leave once I do. I don't think I can do the skips required to complete the final section without it. I'll also grab Snake as normal, since I tried to do Radiance snakeless and failed at the DualSun Tower. I will be fighting most bosses (besides Freezer Poppy and Inflammonite) and be doing some skips (such as Junction Ostrich stalling to skip needing to finish Freezer due to the route). I will also be grabbing enough bananas to upgrade punching power to full, get two bananza length upgrades, and a couple others.
Final time, 1 hour, 58 minutes, 13 seconds (and 73 centiseconds), which would be 4332nd place, but not bad for my third ever any%.
Here's my splits times, but I'm not submitting the run since it was so slow
My splits were usually in the transition to the next kingdom (world screen), but Lost's was a bit into Night Metro on accident
Scratch everything this post said originally, I'm going to be doing a speedrun of my school's esports Discord choice out of Pizza Tower, Odyssey, or learning Bananza's any% route. Let me know if you have a pick that you want me to do.
Also, as I'm working on adapting Bananza's final boss into 2D for Levelhead and remaking its music track in that game, my mom questioned me about the legality of it and if it went into any copyright laws. I saw that if it is a cover, it is derivative content, so it doesn't fall under that, but I don't want to give Nintendo my name, phone number, and email to ask an employee about it. I think it's fine, but if anyone here thinks otherwise, please tell me.
