Mario pictures

love comparing old and new renders to see how theyve evolved.. heres a ddr mario mix and a mario + rabbids render
unknown.png

pretty interestin.. hes got babier proportion which. it just occured to me thats how he just is in mario + rabbids for some reason? this just adds to the effect of the mario characters' renders from that game just looking slightly Off (still good lookin though)
another comparison with a m+r render though the proportions look about the same

I thought it was interesting how Waluigi's amiibo pose is different from his stock pose, whereas most of the Mario characters translated their pose faithfully (except Diddy Kong, who probably has a tail to manage so they made a new pose; reminds me of certain Rayman plushies that stuck a rocket with him). Of course it has to do with how twirling his moustache is difficult to translate to real life.

Thank you for reading.

Is it just me, or does Mario alone look weirdly modern in this SMW art?
Also yay, more proof SMW Monty Mole didn't wear sunglasses, better add that to the pile. Also like SMBE, yellow SMUSA Pokey.
Mario looks pretty 90s to me, but he does have some components associated with modern vector art of Mario.

This art is what calls to mind when I see it, not really the vector art, but I do see what you mean!

Also, uh, did Ninji even appear in Super Mario World? Ho, dang, they do, just in so little courses I forget they're in that game.

Mario might be happy now, but wait until he realizes he has to wash those clothes in cold water, or else they stain.

Ninjis were in Super Mario World, in Bowsers castle.

I was thinking that Iggy's light blue circles in the eyes are his irises and not the reflections in the glasses, effectively here they are covered by the eyelids, further pointing how they're supposed to be irises. I'm wondering who drew this image, maybe the same one who drew the artwork for the Nintendo Power guide?

SMW2_Snifit_unused.gif

I assembled the unused SMW2 Snifit to have the same walk cycle as the game's Shy Guys. In both cases, the feet are separate graphics from the body, giving it more range to move while taking advantage of both the Super FX chip's more minor capabilities and hardware space at the same time. The only Shy Guys in the game I can think of to have the feet on the same graphic as the body are Mace Guys, Woozy Guys, and Stretches.

For completion's sake, here's the final Snifit. Aside from being larger and a different color, it animates slower but has less frames of animation. Also, the body has two sprites instead of one, while the shoes (which are also larger) have two sprites instead of three. Anyways, why the size discrepancy? My personal theory is because of the projectile size. In SMB2, the bullets were ridiculously large for the nozzle, but as that was the norm for that level of graphics it didn't bother anyone. SMW2 is a very smoothly animating game, so something like that would stand out more. Also, there are two other body sprites for it for inhaling and for shooting, which with one 16x16 tile wouldn't have enough room to animate that as expressively as they wanted, particularly as the nozzle itself still needs to grow from its current size to reasonably fire the bullet. Presumably, the original design would have acted more like the SMB2 ones visually, other than the different walking animation type.
