The Official "I'm going away/coming back!" Thread

Thank goodness the government can't throw stones properly, glad to see you're safe. I'd share these videos but like Nitwit, I'm not in many places outside of here, so I'm fairly useless in terms of that.

Still, I pray change in this situation happens soon, I can't stand to hear this continue.

Keep up the good work Anser. You make all of us proud.

Yeah, he's easily the biggest role model for people I know and it's a pleasure to know him.

Who cares if the law bans protests that the government doesn't approve? Go against the law even if it means standing up for your values. You know who the real cowards are? Those liars that hide behind their shiny government badges and throw these weapons.

Remember, stay peaceful, never use violence.

I find socialism's ideas attractive (that is, use government powers to promote the benefit of society), but in Venezuela, whatever going on isn't benefiting society, and it's tarnishing the term "socialist".

Oh God, this is very flattering and actually overwhelming. I know I'm a little bit older than most people here, and to be called a role model is a very big deal for me. It's what I intend to be for my younger sisters, cousins and people younger than me in general. I'm so honored, thank you so much!

I REFUSE to pay attention to a law that forbids me from something that is my right. That's why I'm going to the streets every day and will continue to do so until this madness ends. We've had enough of the crime rate. Literally more people die in Venezuela in a year than in a civil war in the hands of robbers in the streets. The student community is calling for a national strike starting this Monday so every student can go out to protest without having to skip classes. We won't go to class until Maduro leaves the country. I hope we achieve it.

Yes, I'm all against violence. Many people attack the police back, but I think it's unwise to do so because they have weapons, and we don't. Not only that, it's just that violence is never the answer. Every time I see things get ugly, I run for my life, although yesterday I almost didn't make it :(

Socialism wanted to be applied here because more than half of the Venezuelan population is poor. There were illiterate people in masses, and poor people couldn't afford buying food. Now, they can, but the education they get is very poor and it's more of an indoctrination. They teach people to hail Chávez (who I hope is rotting in the pits of hell) as if he were some deity or even God or something like that. People have to do lines of five or even six hours to get ONE package of flour, IF they find it, because like many other things, like butter, oil, etc, it's scarce. It's pathetic. Chávez always criticized capitalism and even got to say that being rich is bad, and that rich people will rot in hell when they die. This is hypocritical, as he was the richest man in Venezuela. He despised the United States and its system, but he sent his family on vacations there every year and even had some nephews studying there. The biggest mistake Chávez made was dividing Venezuela. In America, republicans and democrats think different, but they don't consider each other mortal enemies. Here, we do. It's opposition VS chavistas (Chávez's followers) and we hate each other with a passion.

it's rather depressing that this barely bade cnn's news page

i guess the world has grown rather numb to protests after arab spring went on for forever

Violence isn't the answer because YOU don't want to make yourself look like the bad guy. What did Maduro do when violence broke out? He demonized the anti-government protestors. He's a liar.

I've seen some pictures of the protesters. Oh my god, I can feel myself tensing up, those noble, honest people fighting and fighting and dying.

Living in the U.S., I can't even imagine how it feels like to live in developing nation plagued by extreme inflation, abhorrently high crime rates, a high division between the wealthy and the poor, and the only education being a lack of critical thinking and to hail this man. Chávez is a lying hypocrite. How can anyone trust him to govern a big nation? The only ones that will are his fellow cronies and those that are paid to do this, to promote this disgustingly anti-society crap.

More people need to know about this and the government's attempted coverup so anti Maduro sentiment can build and work in your favor.

There's no reason to stop fighting. Would you die trying to fight or sit there, be alive, and continue living in depressingly low living standards, and have your friends and children live like this? No, you must fight, be honest, and stand up for your values.

No one, liberal, conservative, or moderate, should support this Maduro bastard.

while i don't disagree with you for the most part (i think socialism is (mostly) garbage), i have to ask a question to make sure that you're aware of the situation

My eye has been swolling. A lot. i can barely see with my left eye anymore. I'll probably have to go to the hospital soon. So later I guess.

EXACTLY. You got the point of the whole situation. They even had the nerve to lie about Chávez's death. On most sites and books, they say Chávez died on March 5th, 2013, because that's the date the government finally recognized it. But don't let yourselves be fooled, ladies and gentlemen. Chávez died in DECEMBER, 2012, in the hands of the Cubans that held him there. The Castro brothers want to take over Venezuela and make it become Cuba 2.0 and they want to colonize us so we fall under their dictatorship, but we WON'T permit it. Maduro is selling the country to those bastards. That body inside the coffin they had at Chávez's funeral? Yes, it was made of wax. It was fake. Stupid chavistas who attended the funeral thought they saw his real body, but they didn't. Chávez's real body stayed in Cuba. They still have the nerve of saying "Chávez vive, la lucha sigue", which means "Chávez is alive, the battle goes on". We're all like, "Uhm, no he's not... He's dead".

It's a nightmare to live in a place like this. Last month I came back from vacation from the US and I loved how free you guys are. I walked on the streets of Miami at 11pm with my cell phone in my hand without fear. In Venezuela, you can only do that if you're too lazy to commit suicide by yourself and you prefer someone else to do the job for you. They can kill you for a pair of shoes, a hat, your shirt, or even just because the killer felt like killing you out of fun. All those crimes go unpunished, which is another big problem.

Apparently, the strike I talked about earlier will not involve only schools and universities. I'm being told that the whole country is going to paralyze, but it still hasn't been confirmed. Our most desperate need is that we're alone in this fight. Most countries in Latin America won't intervene because Maduro is giving away our petroleum for free to other countries, and that's our main source of income. Other presidents feel they will lose their free dosis of petroleum if Maduro gets kicked out of the country, so they don't do anything to help us. That's why we're so desperate spreading the word across the world: please, don't leave us alone!! And don't let yourselves be fooled by the government's people, we are under a dictatorship!!

That happened to me yesterday, but it was just an allergy, so I took an anti allergic pill and I got cured in half an hour. I hope you get better soon!

I'm considering to write to my senator about this. I'm VERY hesitant to make the U.S. intervene, not because I oppose you, but I anti-U.S. sentiment is strong there, and there may be unforetold consequences. U.S. has a history of trying to intervene, but it didn't turn out well. And I think there may be oil ties as well... However, my real problem is how scant media coverage is on the Venezuela protest.

I'd feel REALLY guilty if I just let it slide and forget about it.

Man all of this sounds intense. I mean, I'm a bit squeamish and cowardly about these matters. I'm proud of you for standing up for your beliefs and risking your life to make this place a better place.

I wish more people knew about this conflict >_>

It is silly how the government are trying to cover the truth. Anser, you need to spread the news to the world.

I found a video you guys may want to watch, as it's a thorough explanation of what's going on, in English. It's called "What's going on in Venezuela in a nutshell). It has some intense pictures, but nothing I would call "gore". If you feel like it, please share it on whatever social network you're part of.

http://youtu.be/EFS6cP9auDc (For some reason, it won't let me embed the link... It says #Invalid Youtube link#).
I'll get it on Twitter, try contacting some celebrities to retweet it as well and spread it to more people.

My god... This whole thing makes me hate the media even more. Until very, VERY recently media here hasn't even lost one word about the situation in Venzuela. I'll do the best I can to spread that youtube video around. Good luck Anser!

Anser, I'm gonna try to spread the word to any other place I can. Unfortunately, the extent of that is like one other forum. If I could by some miracle get it to the front page of Reddit, I would.

The media is not to blame for this. They are trying to uncover the truth but the Venzuela's government isn't letting them do that. The only reason this isn't a top story yet because their government are being very clever with covering it up.

People need to know what's going on. To think that it's happening and most people probably don't even know about it is horrible.

Sort of true. This is still an issue IMO though.

Hello there! How are you? I hope you're doing great! I just passed by to thank you for your support for my country and me, it really means a lot to me. Venezuela has always been considered as an underdog among Latin American countries, and to see how many of you support us right now is really touching. I'll never be able to thank you enough for this. Thank you so much! God bless you!

Glad to you're still alive Anser!

May the odds be in your favor.

I sent that to everyone who has shown their support :) I'm kind of ashamed it was a copy-paste for almost everyone, but trust me, it's a very personal detail I wanted to have with every single one of you, individually.

Thanks! It's interesting how you're referencing The Hunger Games (a saga I'm a HUGE fan of) because we're like playing The Hunger Games here. We're being killed for many reasons, but one of the main ones is for food, because it's scarce everywhere :(

Never known you or spoken to you, Anser, but you got mad respect from me and I hope you survive all this and see your goals achieved.

Have you guys considered at least wearing some kind of safety equipment? It sounds lame as hell, but a helmet, at least, could stop fatal blows to the head with thrown stones.
