At this time of year, the westward sun dapples the footpath of the Bellchime Trail. Veiled by a golden curtain of leaves, light and shadow dance unseen. The breeze keeps the time on rustled leaves and chiming bells, just as it has done since days immemorial. The winds never fail to arrive around the equinox, scattering the centuries gathered up under the city's eaves. "The city where history flows" may only be a slogan, but there's an undeniable truth beneath those words. Walk among the lanterns and through the market stalls, and the past envelops you, prickling every sense as it flows by.
That is doubtlessly why Ecruteak draws so many. Here, antiquarians, writers, and historians join tourists in search of a transcendent experience, sharing Ecruteak with its local residents and the Pokémon trainers called by an official Gym and legends of unfathomably powerful Pokémon. The eclectic, international crowd visiting the city has only grown in the wake of the high-profile collapse of the international criminal gang Team Rainbow Rocket.
For five years, the world has known peace. We three, the guardians of the Bell Tower, have witnessed the growth in crowds and have witnessed even the return of the Legendary Pokémon Ho-oh. It is our belief that the world stands on the cusp of a new era, one of harmony between the living beings of this planet. For that reason, we believe that now is the time to unveil the treasures long in our care – the Silver Feather and Tidal Bell. With their unveiling, we shall commence the reconstruction of the Burned Tower to inaugurate this new era.
We do not undertake this work lightly. We remember that our cherished peace is fragile, and that there remain those who would seize these treasures for their own gain, if only given the opportunity. To secure our cherished peace, we must limit attendance. We deem you worthy of receiving this invitation. We humbly request you keep this invitation securely on your person, for were it to fall into hands tainted by selfish desires, the treasures of Ecruteak will be at risk.
