It still worthes a watch to a fan. Just prepare to know it's not perfect.Maybe I should just cancel my ticket right now because you are right
I loved Bowser's little redemption arc in the middle of the film. Kind of disappointed it just kinda got reverted since it seemed genuine. At least the door is open to explore that further, since Mario did save Bowser Jr. at the end.
It would be how they made Rosalina and Peach related by some dumb backstory. I think some of the writers were watching too much MatPat and now they're making it canon to the Illumination Mario universe. What makes me more angry is how people who aren't familiar with the Mario franchise and only saw the movies are going to now think they are related, even though they were never supposed to be, and aren't in the games.
I just came back from watching the movie, so here's a first-impressions opinion dump (spoilers obviously):
- Fox was funny 'cause it feels like he came out of nowhere, and yet he had a pretty large part in the movie. I would've loved to be a fly in the room when they pitched adding him to the movie, because I have to wonder how that even came to be - not just him being in the movie, but him having as large as a role as he did.
Lastly, the way that Rosalina was handled in the movie was rather disappointing. She spends the majority of her screen time as Bowser Jr.'s prisoner, which felt like an insult when you look back at her advertising, But when you think it over, in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Luigi did spend a good amount of his screen time as Bowser's prisoner.
I mean its not like the movie is "re-writing" the canon of the franchise (as loose a thing as that is) its just an adaptation doing its own thing.
Okay, it's interesting to see more approved comment in social media is "even a guest like Fox had more lines than Rosalina, the core of the story."
But I personally don't find Rosalina's role too bad. She's the reason why Peach and her friends take action, so she's prisoned for good reason, and just like Luigi, Rosalina can participate in fighting in the following movie so we don't have to dissapoint right now. To me, there are more issues to count from this movie.
That said, I can understand why fans compare Fox to Rosalina. My answer would be we should introduce more different Galaxy characters in movie stroy, not just giving most the screentime to Fox only as if Galaxy has no other character to introduce.
i really hope they DON'T go two for two on pairing the plumbers up with the most directly adjacent princess. I already think those two particular pairings are so boring and it's part of why I wish they'd just not bother with canon relationships and let fans interpret things how they want, because i know those two pairings are the only ones that they'd ever go with if they were to make them explicit.
But sadly i expect them to. That one line from Luigi about Peach having a "friend for him".
Yes, I actually already predicted that Daisy will appear because Luigi said that in the middle of story. Daisy's story in the movie will definitely require alot of revamp and originality since the orignial SML story wasn't that rich. Luigi hasn't got leading moments in the two previous films, so it's no brainer to predict he'd take the lead in the third film with Daisy.
As for romance, well I'm a shipper so I'm defnitely supportive in romance. But there is still a problem with the story this time. Mario seemed to have some mental problem in going for Peach at first, but the latter part of the film didn't mention his issue ever again, which is a lack in Mario's development for this film. I know Peach and Mario would still stay as friends, but seem like Nintendo push it too fast and the two act too intimate as friends at this point.
(Okay, some how that echoes to the Frozen joke above, because Kristoff had similiar issue like Mario in his sequel despite Kristoff already dates Anna.
I think fandom is rather curious if Rosalina will date any guy from the main cast, or she is exactly Nintendo's Elsa.
