The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Spring 2026)

I think it's a mixed of pros and cons that deserve an average rating. The problems are actually very simple and giant.

1) Yoshi's sudden debut with the entire Dino Island story skipped. The problem is, Yoshi's relationship with Mario bros is basically great from the start for no reason without Dino Island's past, het gets no development and story and his friendship with others just feels too shallow. Yet, it kinda wastes and overlooks Yoshi's potential to be the center of a serious story.
I think this further proves why we should had got a Yoshi's Island movie before jumping onto Galaxy.

2) Bowser's story kinda suks if you ask me. It feels sad to temporary want to be a good guy yet get easily convinced by Jr to be evil again. I think it would had bee a much better writing if Bowser stays unsure about redemption and revenge, and eventually decides to be good and tells his son that he was never the right role model for Jr to learn from. The story doesn't end at the right place, as if Miyamoto's opinion is "you should always listen to your parent/child even if you know they're not doing the right thing."
If they need Bowser's fight anyway, they could had just used Kamek's magic to brainwash Bowser temporarily, or make Dry Bowser just a magical duplicate.

3) Wart gang's role being exclusive to the casino is a bit waste, and it's weird both because they're part of the poster, and they're actually Bowser's alliance but basically do nothing in the final battle. It would be much better to have them in the final battle and then send all of them into slammers.

4) Fox's entry is easily arguable. I'm saying this based on the fact Galaxy already got Captain Lubba in a similiar role, and she should had been the one to travel with Mario first. Besides, it would also be a better surprise for Fox to make heroic entry when Lubba's airship gets crashed. They don't really need to throw Lubba under the bus.

5) Power-up super underused outside the final battle. Since they say Toad's package is imporant because he puts in key items (not just the money pay for travel), we should get to see heroes use transformation everywhere. Also Peach basically doesn't get any transformation, that's kinda awful because she's the real main focus of the story, and didn't get any transformation in the original Galaxy game. It would be much more impactful if Peach saves Rosalina in her newly gained power-up.

6) I didn't have high hope, but I absolutely don't like the absence of Tatanga and Orbulon. It's especially weird when you bring the Sarasaland princess into the attention but don't notice that Tatanga has more to do with the theme. Why not just say Tatanga is another alliance of Bowser?

The rest of original story and adaption are okay to me.

the movie was EPIC! it was awesome home to me. It made me feel like a kid again.

I would like to discuss the elephant in the room:Fox
McCloud

Although his appearance does not make any sense to the plot of the movie along with the Pikmin and Mr. Game N Watch whatsoever , (although it was short for the both of them) I am so glad that they kind of use him as a sub main character, he was actually a good use and don't blame me if you don't like it, but I kind of like it and I hope he gets his own movie. Now, the 30-40-year-old gamers who played Starfox, Furries & haters will thank both Nintendo & Illumination & will now shut up.

One thing that I did not know that about in the movie is that Peach and Roaslinia are sisters which made me very disappointed and confused because making them sisters is a hinder to the plot of the movie.

The part where Mario, Luigi & Toad are being turned into babies using the super scope ray made me very uncomfortable due to the trope of adults being turned into babies is pure fucking f*tsh fuel. ( I know thsat people on Twitter, bluesky and other social media for into these type of stuff are going to rage rn as I speak)

The Bowser and Bowser Jr. scene with the puppets we was very touching.

I don't like the fact that Wart and the gang's appearance were shorts and most of the characters (such as Rob) were like very forgettable) the Lumas are literally adorable.

I also like the storybook cut out and the little stuffed animals and cardboard cutouts of the characters and backgrounds.

The fact that Junior uses a machine to torment Mario & Peach that looks like an SNES/NES is so cool. The scenes (albeit short) were very intense.

THE MARIO TEACHES TYPING REFERENCE WAS A DEEP CUT (ALONG WITH OTHER DEEP CUTS)

YOSHI
WAS
SO
FREAKING
CUTEEEEEE!!!!!
I loved the way the talked and his mannerisms, I wish I can get a plushy of him

Toad is very mean to Yoshi which I didn't like

Why do people complain about Peach being a badass. She was EPIC in this movie.

I wish Tryclyde and Fryguy were in the casino but that's okay

Lumalee returns at the end of the movie 0-0 very unexpected and weird.

Bowser was friendly towards the brothers at one point and turned into his bone form that was a plus for me.

I don't know why mixed power-ups from every mainline game and that's the one that confuse me.

I don't like the forced romance subplot it's really icky.

I would give the movie a 6 out of 10 not bad but I think it could be better.

i'm going to give two spoiler tags. the first are my general thoughts on the movie & the actual plot. the second is me screaming about a blink and you miss it reference.

i have no idea what the negative reviewers were smoking, this was a great film. Peach and Rosalina being sisters caught me by surprise, but they surprisingly handle it well & naturally. My condolences to everyone who ships them though.

I loved Bowser's little redemption arc in the middle of the film. Kind of disappointed it just kinda got reverted since it seemed genuine. At least the door is open to explore that further, since Mario did save Bowser Jr. at the end. Speaking of Jr., his bond with his dad is adorable. But it makes me hope these characters aren't doomed to be the ones being fought against for every movie. Not only do I want to see them grow into more versatile characters, I want to see other villains get their time in the spotlight, which the second spoiler tag actually gives me a grain of hope for.

Not a fan of the continued inching toward a romance between Mario and Peach. I just really don't think the main cast needs to be paired up in relationships, and of all the ones possible I just think that one is the most bogstandard you can get. Male protagonist and central female character who happens to be conventionally attractive. And it looks like they're even planting the seeds for Luigi to immediately fall for Daisy in the next movie, given his line about Peach "having a friend for him" and Daisy being introduced in the post-credits scene. Yawn, the ships I want will never happen but that doesn't mean they have to make these an official thing.

Love that Foreman Spike at least got a cameo. I was hoping for a little more of Brooklyn than just a quick exposition flashback from Yoshi. The Fox McCloud stuff, i guess the way it was explained made sense. If you're gonna bring in interdimensional travel, I'm not sure why you wouldn't first consider the alternate dimensions within the Marioverse, though those at least did get tiny cameos (see second spoiler)

E. Gadd also got alluded to, but it's odd how they chose to do so. Kamek has a mug with his emblem (a possible Starbeans reference) and Bowser Jr. has what appears to be E. Gadd's chair. But the one thing Bowser Jr. owns that originally had E. Gadd's logo, and that is still very central to this movie, his magic paintbrush, DOESN'T have the logo. The most obvious place to put it was passed up and it was put elsewhere instead. Not really sure what the logic could've possibly been for that choice.

Wart's segment was fun. It seemed like it was building up to some interaction between him and the Bowsers though, and that never happened. Overall a fantastic movie, and once again evidence that the film review industry has its head up its ass.

THE RPGS ARE REALLLLLLLLLL

I'M ACTUALLY DREAMING RIGHT NOW HOW IS THIS REAL. LIKE THE STARBEANS THING COULD BE DEBATED BUT THIS? AS CUT AND DRY AS IT GETS.
We have TWO FUCKING SPM REFERENCES HERE. THE DARK PROGNOSTICUS AND TIPPI. Not to mention even a reference to BROTHERSHIP, which is crazy given how that wasn't even out when this movie started development. And what looks like the book from TTYD is here too! Also yeah there's a sneak in there but at least we don't live in the timeline where that's the only reference they put. There's also a Shine Sprite, but Piantas appear in the flesh (plus you know, Bowser Jr) so i don't think that's as huge of a deal. (does make Toadsworth's absence sting more tho)

The question is, IS TIPPI MEANT TO REPRESENT THE LIGHT PROGNOSTICUS OR WHAT IS THE IMPLICATION

WHAT IS THE IMPLICATION OF ROSALINA OWNING THE FUCKING DARK PROGNOSTICUS AAAAAAAA

Saw the movie and it's AWESOME. Definitely enjoyed it much more than the first one.
Hello maggots!

The first half was amazing. 10/10. There is a point in time where they start running out of jokes. And it gets slightly more boring.

My favorite scene was the puppet show. Seeing an even younger Bowser Jr. was just insane, and then Bowser doing that puppet show was just even crazier. LOVED IT. The bees were also great. I wish the honey mines scene was a bit longer.

I wasn't bothered by the non-Mario characters. And they did create funny moments.

I was skeptical on how they were going to handle Yoshi as he's one of my favorite characters. And I'd say they did a fantastic job! Every character interaction with him was great.

I loved the penguins carrying around blocks of ice as luggage at Gateway Galaxy. Genius.

I got caught off guard when Ukiki started talking since I've never heard his voice.

Still cringe when Mario calls Luigi "Lu".

There was a point in time when I remembered Peach and Toad at Gateway Galaxy and then later in the movie they somehow were in Neo Bowser City. But then I remembered they went through the brick wall. Must have been a portal. It is a reference to the Warp Zone and the Minus World after all. Reviewers might have gotten confused by that. It is some crazy Mario lore.

Now for the climax. Or climaxes? Rosalina and Peach's climax was good. Something felt off about the fight with Bowser and Jr. climax tho. I dunno. I feel like Bowser should have stayed good. Seeing Dry Bowser was cool, I guess.

I can see how general movie reviewers didn't like the movie. It really is made for Mario fans. And I think that's a good thing. It means Illumination can go all in on the Mario universe... and they did!

Edit: Almost forgot about the reference to MARIO TEACHES TYPING of all things. I could not believe my ears when I heard Luigi sing that song. What an extremely deep cut.

Socond Edit: I do like all the musical references throughout the movie. But at times it can be a bit overwhelming. I had this problem with the first movie too. I was curious to see what the main theme would be and then the main theme for the first movie starts playing and I'm like. Oh. I guess that makes sense. It is pretty iconic.
