The request is taking a little longer than I expected, so stay tuned and I'll have it ready soon.

Ok, that looks awesome.

I might find a higher polygon Bowser with a skeleton.

Re: The Pyro Guy's 3D art thread (with some 2D thrown in)

I think that Bowser looks fine.

How about Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi playing Wii U with Luigi holding the GamePad?

I can tell it's been too long since I looked at the MP10 box.

Instead of Peach, how about Toad? That'll force you to make a unique image.

Still needs a skeleton and a proper rig, you know? It makes life so much easier.

The trouble is that Mario Kart 8's models are so high definition, but the rigging is unbelievably simple; two bones for a thumb, two bones for every finger. Smash Bros's models are good, but... sometimes the rigging is buggy, which is why I had to manually bend the mesh in the Viper26 image.

Re: The Pyro Guy's 3D art thread (with some 2D thrown in)

I don't think Mario Kart 8's models are very high poly.

Have you tried Super Mario 3D World's Bowser? I'm not sure if it has a skeleton.

These look great! Thanks, LGM.

They're actually very low poly. In order to fully take advantage of Mario Kart 8's overall model quality, you have take advantage of its normalmaps and specmaps that are provided (that is, the grayscaled files and the blue-colored ones). Normal maps provided calculated elevation within a texture without changing a polygonal structure while specmaps can make things look shiny.

I don't have a side-by-side example of what the model looks with and without bumpmaps and specmaps applied, but this render has those extra files applied:

Notice the bumpy-looking textures on their clothing? Those are caused by their bumpmaps file, the blue-colored ones, the ones that end in "nrm" instead of "alb" or "spm".

I used the bump maps for the left one. It's a cube with the textures applied, and on the right is a model of one from SM3DW.

Re: The Pyro Guy's 3D art thread (with some 2D thrown in)

Why does your bumpmap look off in the first one? And btw, why are your models, like, semi-transparent?

Re: The Pyro Guy's 3D art thread (with some 2D thrown in)

I dunno, I didn't manually UV map, and it's my first go at bump mapping. The lighting also makes the models white on the exposed areas, and since they are the same white as the background, it looks transparent.

What do you use for your 2d works?

paint.NET most of the time.

Re: The Pyro Guy's 3D art thread (with some 2D thrown in)

Working on a higher polygon Boo Guy from Yoshi's New Island.

Textures will take a long time to map probably, so I'm sculpting the model first.

Re: The Pyro Guy's 3D art thread (with some 2D thrown in)
