I don't play too much RPGs (and I acknowledge that my gaming library is composed of mainly Mario games like *gasp* you), but even I've seen/played RPGs

diablo does
 
darkspore does play like diablo, complete with the colored weapons thing, customizing them and being a dungeon crawler like diablo, so yeah.
 
I'm gonna make a party composed entirely of goombas.

Koopatrols are just about the only one I could see happening.

I wonder if we will be able to recruit bosses?

It would be amusing to beat up Bowser with the koopalings.

Knowing this series, they'll make a throwaway joke about it and not really explain it.

Summary of the text:

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition will be released at May in Europe. The game will be sell in box with Puzzle & Dragon. The delay is short after Japan release, we are surprised and like how it comes fast in Europe. Too bad Nintendo isn't always so fast with Europe release for 3DS games.

There is a picture of a winged yoshi, and bee mario and bee luigi, makes me wonder what other power-ups will be involved.

Thats reasonable. But considering its part of a double pack its probably not the most original game in terms of new assets.

If what I've read about PnD is correct just about any creature you fight can be yours so I don't see why it wouldn't also apply here.
