About the movie being based on the cartoon.
Good. I thought you were going crazy for a second there, man!

Something like TGMTSPP but better written and better animation would work best I think.
And no wiggler-dogs who transforms into princes.

That falls into the better written part.

Just as long as they keep the acid-trip musical travel montages. Those were the best thing ever.

Doki doki doki DO IT

Maybe if they used actual music from the games sure.

If this was an adaption from an existing Mario RPG, I would be disappointed. I want some more original content with a plethora of allusions to the games (but not so much it becomes forced).

On that, LGM. I guess I would be more ok with this if it was made by Disney, a Wreck it Ralph-esque Mario movie would actually be pretty good.

i'd rather see a movie take on one of the rpgs than the whole fucking overused "oh shit the princess is missing, better go on one big linear story to find her and save her from bowser", which will eventually be what this movie is all about, because "the whole family knows this storyline"

i think we gave up the originality of a mario movie when it became a mario movie

As compared to the usual rpg plot which involves Peach getting kidnapped by somebody else where Mario and/or Luigi go on a linear adventure to save her from somebody who isn't Bowser?

Do I even need to point out the blatant hypocrisy of your post?

lol yeah its almost always peach getting kidnapped as the main goal in a mario rpg

there are some exceptions but really its mostly just the same

what really makes the difference is how the adventure turns out, not that the princess gets kidnapped.

Thats what I keep saying. The base scenario isn't all that important, it just needs to be about the main cast of characters where they go on an adventure. Add in some quirky characters, good humour and personality with some quality animation (3D or 2D) that stays true to the franchise and you'd have a solid enjoyable movie.

I think that this should not be an adaptation of ANY existing Mario story. I don't really care if the princess gets kidnapped as long as the story for this movie (if it even happens) is both original and GOOD.

My argument wasn't to reuse the typical princess get stolen. In my ideal world, that princess getting stolen wouldn't be the main focus, but it would be kind of a trigger to get the story going. I mean, the princess gets rescued maybe already 15 minutes in the movie, to familiarize the audience with the typical Mario story, and the rest is the actual story.

So kinda like how Superstar Saga begins (although that was her voice being stolen)

Maybe they could add the princess getting captured story but have our heroes come across a bunch of things on their journey like a ride from plessie and Dorrie, a walk through the Haunted house run by King Boo, etc

As long as her kidnapping is related to the actual plot and has a meaning, I'm in.

Yeah, just as long as it isn't filler. But you guys get it.

This would put the focus on rescuing the princess, which is wouldn't be my vision.

What is the main antagonist is Koopa Kid from the Mario Party series? Don't worry, since he will get a redesign and a new personality. In the movie, he is a misformed clone of Bowser who used to work for him but got fired when he destroyed his master's new, improved airship. At the beginning of the story, he seeks the help of Mario to stop Bowser's plan that could end with the destructionof the entire Mushroom World. Along with Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Yoshi, Mario must travel across the planet to put a stop to Bowser's nefarious plans. To do so, the heroes must collect the Dream Stars. These mystic relics have the power to determine the fate of the world. At the same time, the heroes are pursued by the Wario Bros., a Snifit assassin named Crush, and a mysterious figure named K.

At the end of the story, it is revealed that Koopa Kid turned Bowser into stone and disguised himself as the Koopa King so that he could utilize his technology, militia, and identity and become dictator of the Mushroom Kingdom. A battle ensues, and just before Koopa Kid kills Mario, K appears and knocks Koopa Kid unconscious. Bowser is freed, and the heroes begin to celebrate. K is about to reveal his identity when Koopa Kid appears and murders him with a sword. K's mask falls off, and he is revealed to be Mario's father. Then Koopa Kid states that "he is the final boss" and fuses with Bowser and the Dream Stars to become Giga Koopa, a monstrous being who knows nothing but vengeance and greed. Mario is about to die when he remembers an important message that his father told him. Mario fights to the very end, and Giga Koopa falls to the mighty plumber. Koopa Kid and Bowser survive, but Koopa Kid rolls into the lava and commits suicide. The story ends with the burial of Mario's father and Koopa Kid.

Although I like the thought of Koopa Kid being a major villain, something strikes me as cliche, as Koopa Kid exploits the usual diversionary tactic people use in movies, and we get this father-son thing which I think feels a bit forced anyway. I want to be minimal on the original character thing and rather develop the ones we have right now, especially Mario and Luigi. :)

I'd like during the movie, there's a lot of bro-to-bro interaction between Mario and Luigi. It should be emphasized that they're not just brothers but twin brothers. Yes, being a twin (who's identical), that makes a whole world of a difference. We don't have a lot of stories starring twin brothers (much less twin sisters)

I've never really thought of the movie plot going like that, but now that the idea is in my mind I can't get it out. This is Super Mario Bros., after all! Besides, I half-assed my synopsis of the Koopa Kid plot; I just wrote it because I was bored.

Gee......that sounds a little dark for Mario doesn't it? Characters getting killed off isn't very common in the Mario series, other than RPG villains. Even than, it's never been stabbing with swords or anything like that.

That sounds awful.
