Yes, I know that a lot of space is occupied by all the graphical details, codes, models, online mode, sound effects, etc
Fun fact: out of the assigned amount of space of around 4,7 GB on a single-layer Wii disk, MKWii uses 2,5.

Wrong topic probably, but I wonder how the metroid prime trilogy fit in one disc then.

Maybe that uses a dual-layer disk. That can hold 8,5 GB.

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

The MP Trilogy definitely uses a dual-layered disk like SSBB.

But 32 is tradition. Breaking tradition is like, a no no.

Well, Super Circuit had 40, the original had 20 and 64 as well as Double Dash had 16. That's half of the series.

*checks* Yup, 1,7 gigs.

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

I think some of the custom tracks should be refined and be Mario Kart 8 stages lol

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

Eh, I'm just going to post a few favourites from each that I'd be happy with.

Super Mario Kart:
Vanilla Lake 1 or Vanilla Lake 2
-
Battle Course 3

Mario Kart 64:
Toad's Turnpike
Wario Stadium
Yoshi Valley
-
Double Deck

Mario Kart: Super Circuit:
Cheese Land
Sunset Wilds
Ribbon Road
Yoshi Desert
Broken Pier
-
Battle Course 2

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!:
Wario Colosseum
Mushroom City
-
Tilt-a-Kart
Luigi's Mansion

Mario Kart DS:
Tick Tock Clock
Shroom Ridge
Wario Stadium

Mario Kart Wii:
Toad Factory
Grumble Volcano
Dry Dry Ruins
-
Funky Stadium

Mario Kart 7:
Shy Guy Bazaar
Wuhu Island Loop
DK Jungle

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

Well the underground and music stages from MK7 (and one more I don't remember) have been confirmed to return, so I don't think we'll be getting any more.

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

Ah yes, Double Deck. That stage was awesome. I just hope the Battle Mode in this game isn't as boring as Mario Kart Wii's/7's. I hope it's like 64's/Double Dash's.

It's Piranha Plant Slide, Music Park, and Dry Dry Desert.

I would like Double Deck too, please

So, the rest, the 0.8 gigabytes, are everything else.

Even then the special effects probably take up a significant portion of that.

Usually the newer games get 4 retro tracks

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

It's hard to predict this stuff - GCN Dry Dry Desert is such an uninspired choice, and might the only GCN - but in terms of wants...

-GBA Ribbon Road or GBA Rainbow Road
-3DS Wario Shipyard
-GCN Bowser's Castle
-N64 Royal Raceway
-DS Tick Tock Clock

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

Shipyard seems a good choice, I can imagine it working with anti-gravity to.

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

I'd like to see:
Toad Circuit(MK7)
Toad's Factory(Wii)
Wario Colosseum(GCN)
Sunset Wilds(GBA)
Tick Tock Clock(DS)
And any random course from SMK.

Yeah, Toad Factory as well. Gamexplain pointed out that the crate conveyor belts in the airport level could mean that Toad Factory has a chance of coming back. The tunnel with the speed up and speed down lines could become anti-gravity as well.

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

That line of reasoning (they just have to reuse assets!!) seems a bit off to me, but it could happen. But, I don't see much anti-gravity use for TF... every retro is probably going to have at least one use of it.

(At the same time, no SMK level has an obvious use, so...)

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

I don't know, they used a recoloured mushroom in MK7's Rainbow Road that seemed out of place and used for the sake of it.

I just didn't like MK7's Rainbow Road at all though. MKW's is still my favourite.

Not to mention, placement of some were bad, such as that one that led to a blind spot, just before part 2.

Re: Your Mario Kart 8 Retro Track Predictions/Wants

SNES: Vanilla Lake 1, Ghost Valley 3
N64: Toad's Turnpike, Rainbow Road
GBA: Boo Lake, Yoshi Desert
GCN: Mushroom City, Wario Colosseum
DS: Bowser's Castle, Wario Stadium
WII: Grumble Volcano, Toad's Factory
3DS: Shy Guy Bazaar
