Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

Yeah, I agree - I just meant that if you take the game by itself, it certainly isn't the worst thing in the world. I find it pretty fun.

I'm still baffled that a game about greed does not have Wario in any capacity.

Yeah. I just finished 100%ing the game, and I feel like the Coin Rush DLC (I played the Gold Edition) was... unnecessary at best, bad at worst. Coin Rush is quite literally the ultimate display of greed in that game, the goal is quite literally to collect as much money as possible. No end. No point. No goal. Hell, the million coins is probably the tipping point. Like I said, I don't consider it a BAD game per se, but it certainly isn't the best in the series.

Fortune Street is basically just a worse version of Mario Party (I don't know if that's an unpopular opinion or not)

there might have been a few threads like this before for specific things, but I don't think I've seen one for the series as a whole, so...

just say some opinions about whatever in the Mario series that not many people seem to agree with. this can also apply to Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Wario, etc.

I've got quite a few that most members don't seem to agree with:

-Daisy is the best female character in the series.
-Birdo and Waluigi are good characters. (the latter might not be as unpopular as the other but I do see multiple people dislike him so)
-I don't like the Koopalings, Luigi, or Rosalina.
-Bobbery is my least favorite partner in PM2.
-Mario Kart DS is the best Mario Kart game.
-SMB2 is better than SMB3.
-the Olympic Games can be fun.
-Dixie Kong is better than Diddy.
-Goomba's Greedy Gala is my favorite board in MP4.

I probably have more, but I can't think of them right now.
The 1993 Mario movie was a great Mario film

Mario 2D platformers have always been far better to the 3D platformers in my opinion

All of Mario JRPG games are amazing and i think Mario would work best as a JRPG franchise

They should do proper continuations to the usually ignored games in the series (like Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) or Super Mario Land) instead of taking bits from them for smaller ideas in other games.

I agree with that. Nintendo likes to do nostalgia a lot these days, but they don't really revisit some of the more eccentric entries like those you mentioned. It would be cool to see a remake of those two games, we get to see the strange enemies but with the modern 3d graphics.

I do agree with this sentiment. Super Mario Bros. 2 with its unusual gameplay would be nice to revisit, with the unusual mechanics of not being able to jump on foes to defeat them (among other things). Maybe Super Mario Sunshine as well, with the water mechanic that could see an evolution like how Luigi gets to have reiterated Poltergust in subsequent entries.

It's a reason I want more Mario games in the vein of Donkey Kong (1981): this is a gameplay style that I want to see expanded or evolve like a modern release that unfortunately only has two follow ups: Donkey Kong (1994) and Mario vs. Donkey Kong). The Donkey Kong rivalry is part of why I want to see it, but Mario's more limited jumping mechanics (he can't jump very high) and what the did to address that (give him flexible controls for jumping) is why I want to see more from how they can expand it further.

Thank you for reading.
