  • You know, being an administrator on a wiki is a bit of a funny feeling. Like, when you first join you look up to admins as leaders with a lot of editing experience, but when you actually become one you're still used to that feeling that there's a team above you calling the shots. I mean, yeah, WiKirby has an Editor-in-Chief that calls most of the shots, but a single user can't be active 24/7, and when that burden shifts to you...it just feels kind of awkward.

I needed to get this off my chest. Yes, I'll admit that when I first started editing wikis in 2017 I had that same dream we all did of becoming a wiki admin, but the dream is quite different from reality. It's a lot of work, a lot of adjustment, and it's not all just fun and games. I still love it, of course, but it does feel a lot different.

Oh man, I'm a moderator on another wiki. I don't think there's as much of a strict hierarchy, I still get people that know more than me making moderator decisions, but I sometimes make my own on my own whims, and that can be stressful. I sometimes get criticized for my judgement, but luckily, no regular has been that harsh to me. Anyhow, I get called a bit to some arguments being made, and those can span like 272,000 bytes of text for me to go through before I make a judgement. And I have to kinda make a judgement because my job is to keep discussions in check, prevent from being derailed, but I sometimes have to take a side in which argument (but try to be as fair as possible) is better, and that can lead to people claiming I'm biased. There are other cases where there's a big argument with flaming from several users, or there's an argument on whether we should enact a rangeblock on a troll or not (where I'm from, rangeblocks are kinda touchy subject) and I get comments on how the wiki is going too far or people are so different today. I tried to tell them to act more civil and I got accused of being a high school principal.
    YoshiFlutterJump
    YoshiFlutterJump
Boy, that sounds like a pretty harsh environment. It must be awful when people make an already difficult job even more difficult. I haven't had any encounters like that (WiKirby folk are generally pretty supportive from my experience) but I definitely wish you luck in your moderation duties.
    LeftyGreenMario
    LeftyGreenMario
The worst part is still having to read a whole bunch of text on a subject I'm not 100% confident on, but I don't want to come off as not really being involved when I need to be. Don't really worry about the insults I got, another moderator did say that he respected my opinion despite disagreeing, still praised my job at being a great moderator (and I note that I'm probably the most popular moderator as I won like three moderator elections with the most votes) and said that I'm bound to sound like a high school principal every now and then.

For anyone else who still plays the definitely-NOT-obsolete Super Mario Maker 1, I've got a new course up.

So, this is actually my third time uploading this level (it was taken down both previous times due to general unpopularity), but it's my pride and joy and I really couldn't resist.

This was one of my earliest levels (originally created way back in 2016), but I feel that it's the first time I truly understood the difference between challenging and trolling. Please check it out if you find the time!

I know the airship theme fits your level's aesthetic, but personally I wouldn't make an airship theme level where you spend long periods of time at the top of the screen (or bottom) because it has that rising and sinking camera often making incoming obstacles completely off-screened so you have to guess when to jump. Personally I'd also make the moving blue platform faster by adding wings, the slow speed of it made that last section tedious. In fact, being the world-record-seeking person I am, my first strat was to try to catch one of the burners moving left with a shoe jump from the bottom, and use it to enter the door at the end, but the camera proved to be too unreliable for that (plus keeping the boot long enough to do that and still have a costume to damage boost the fire and Bowsers long enough to get in the door was too tricky for me).

I know it fits the theme slightly less, but not that much less imo, I'd suggest switching to castle theme. You keep the "storming enemy base" theme but the camera actually works with the level.

    YoshiFlutterJump
Hmm, I see. Yeah, maybe I could have made that final part a little less...evil. And that bit about speeding up that platform is actually entirely new to me, so thanks for telling me that!

I'll try some different things with the level, and I'll reupload the level if it significantly improves as a result. Thanks for your input!

Here I am, at the 3-hour mark, and...so much for overestimation. I wasn't as close as I had hoped an hour ago. But I'm definitely nearing the end now, so I can finally ride Hagrid's motorbikes and this line nightmare will finally be over.

I'm off the ride now. I didn't think it was possible to justify a 3-hour wait, but this ride proved me wrong. It was surprisingly lengthy and had pretty much everything I love about roller coasters in a single ride. It was nothing short of amazing.

This is it: my new favorite roller coaster of all time.
Just beat Luigi's Mansion 1 on GameCube with all 50 Boos, all Portrait Ghosts, and a rank C mansion. It was a bit short, but I had a ton of fun with it and it was unlike any game I'd played before. Looking forward to playing its sequels.

Do you plan to play its remake as well?
    Who was your favorite ghost?
    Favorite Boo name?
What was the most fun part of it?
How would you improve the game if you could?

    @Luma

-I might play the remake at some point. It would have been my version of choice if not for the fact that my 3DS broke last Christmas, but since I'll need a new one for LM2 anyway, that won't be stopping me from playing it at some point in the future.

-Mr. Luggs. I mean, he's the ghost that eats. What's not to like?

-Boomerang wins easily, but Booigi isn't far behind.

-I loved how much emphasis there was on puzzle-solving. It's been quite a while since I last played a game that made you constantly stop and think about how to proceed using your surroundings. I'll admit I used a guide for a few of them, but for most of them it was just me and my brain.

-I'd definitely make the game a bit longer, like a couple extra floors or something. I'd also add more variety in the non-portrait ghosts, and I'd add a little more jumpscare effect with each ghost appearance. Everything else was fantastic, though.
Had a great birthday today! In terms of presents, I got some cool new clothes, a new wallet, Mario & Sonic Tokyo 2020, and a Switch Lite. My family already had a Switch, but I really like the design of the Lite and the D-Pad is nice, so it's nice to have one of my own.

We also went bowling earlier; I've only been bowling once before, years ago, and yet I got three strikes in a row. That's better than I typically do in Wii Sports!

Anyway, had a nice birthday. Christmas is in 11 days now, so I'll have that to look forward to as well.
Had a nice Thanksgiving meal with family over. Got to hang out with my grandma, papa, uncle, and sister for a while too. We played various card games for a little while, and I finally got to rematch my longtime Fortune Street rival (even though I lost...again...but hey, I got close this time).

Also, now I don't have to yell "thanksgiving first" at everyone who starts singing Christmas songs.
You know, looking through official social media accounts of fictional characters is pretty fascinating. Especially when two different accounts document the same event from different perspectives. Really adds a unique layer of world-building.

So the debate's over now. My team didn't win, but then again, it's pretty difficult for the affirmative team to win a team policy debate at all. Still pretty proud of myself, though. I was voted best speaker in the debate!

Glad it's over now, though. Now I can relax for a little while, with that off my shoulders.

By the way, I should mention that, with the removal of my braces, I got retainers. My previous appointment I ordered a custom design with a translucent green base with red glitter on it, based off the signature colors of the Mario brothers themselves. I couldn't preview the design since it was custom-made, but it turned out absolutely beautiful.

    LeftyGreenMario
Oo, well, take good care of it. I'd like to see that too. Mario's the flashy sparkly detail though rather than the base. :P I stopped wearing retainers years ago because one day, they just didn't fit properly in my mouth. I hope my underbite doesn't come back in 30 years lol.

Direct is over. Biggest highlight for me was Super Kirby Clash, followed by the SNES games.

Although in terms of the latter, I'm a bit surprised that Kirby 3 is a launch game and not Super Star. But whatever, Kirby 3 is still great and I'm looking forward to the game's official portable debut!

Update: I'm at The Final Battle, at Level 55. The recommended level is 58 so I'll be attempting it once I reach that.

In terms of gear, Sword Hero and Hammer Lord have Rarity 12, Beam Mage has Rarity 11, and Doctor Healmore has Rarity 9.

Have you ever dabbled in Party Quests? There's another list of quests and missions that would really help in accruing Apples and Experience. If you play online you would likely find other people with great gear to make clearing levels faster.

If you haven't already, I would like to suggest the Adventurer's Codex, since it rewards an extra Apple per volume (so for example, getting Volume III gives 3 apples each time).

    Thank you for reading.
    YoshiFlutterJump

I've been keeping up with Party Quests too. The recommended levels are rather high so I try to reach those before playing them, but the extra EXP from online really helps, and especially when combined with an EXP Orb.

As for Codexes, I've been getting my fair share of those too. I have Volume 3 of the Codex of Vigor, Volume 3 of the Sword Hero Codex, and a few other codexes that I can't name off the top of my head. I hadn't seen the Adventurer's Codex, though. I should check that out.

The extra apples from my level 3 tree really help.
