Awards Killing Game 2x2: Moon of Hope (Game Thread) - Day 3 - The Rat, the Bat, and the Dragon

Fascia and I would like to check the Container Yard, please.

It's close to the Train Exhibit, so maybe there was a fight in there.
You don't see any traces of a scuffle or a fight. A couple containers have been shoved around, but not showing signs of violence.

I'll check the lizard's inventory. Does he still have that sketchbook of his?
He does indeed have the sketchbook.

Ahh, another day, another-

Yeah yeah whatever I'll just get on with it.
- I went to the studio, where I saw Lee and Jackson. I exited via the Train Exhibit (obviously the body of a- ahem- sorely not missed person- was not there yet, I would have noticed) and went to the Icy Lake to go and hang out with the excellent Mona for awhile. This fancy ghost tech-y stuff is really something, huh?
- Lyra and Glasses were there at the Lake, by the way,
- Me and Mona spent some time together in the Rumpus Room until Albina and Lu came along. I let Albina take Mona away and parted ways, Lu and I passed through the Solarium and I made my way back to the realm of the living.
- After passing through the Hydro Generators I went up the Cargo Lift and heard an explosion. I wish I had something to do with that, truly I do, but I've had my fill of explosions for my stay here.
- I spent some time in the Coatroom, then left, popping into the Gallery before I retired to my bedroom. I saw nary a soul after I entered the realm of the living.

I'm thinking. Fascia's helping out a lot.

Is the black substance on the pipe consistent with gunpowder, or some kind of coal from the Round House minecarts? Charcoal is used in different art movements than the Maestro's. Winter must have been familiar with it... ah, I would have liked to have asked him about it.

The blood in the Train Exhibit - is there noticeably more than even a trisection might cause? Or would that be a question for Miss Mona, or my own memory?

Upon closer examination, it appears to be coal dust. 99% purity.

It doesn't seem like there's noticeably more blood than the situation.

Try to peek in the Pit Mine
You look at the Pit Mine. The minecart track spirals into an abyss beyond sight. Then it comes out over on the other side and loops back to the initial track. Tanner sees you looking at the Pit.

tanner_neutral_talk.png

"Yeah, don't try to ride in there. The minecart track goes through some real high pressure, high heat areas."
tanner_excited.png

"Even for ghosts, it's horribly unpleasant. The living... Well. They aren't."
tanner_tired.png

"The minecarts are always fine, though. I don't know where Gadd got them, but he was picking well."

Can we get more detail on the lowered gate in the Pit Mine? Is it mechanically operated and lowered down directly, or has it been visibly broken off in any way?

You observe the gate. It's a very simple barricade designed to prevent mine carts from going further into the abyss. The top of the gate has not been damaged as far as you can tell, as it's now completely sunken into the ground, making passage possible. It appears to be mechanically operated, but you note no button or lowering mechanism nearby.

Investigate Thanos in the Crypt.
You examine Thanos (Car) (Dead) (Alive(?)) (Dead) (Real). His corpse is faceplanted on the ground, unmoving, near the south door, along with some wooden coffins pushed up against the door itself. His body appears to be covered in dirt and mud. There's a puncture in his side abdomen, and his hands are covered in splinters.

Investigate the Smokehouse. Against all better judgment, give the air a good whiff

I'd like to ask Vigil about the state of both Winter and Ratigan
Vigil responds with a puff of smoke, and starts his autopsy on Winter, scanning the dragon's body with his lamp, and flashing it a few different colors.

Without a doubt, the train was what caused the trisection, but he takes solace knowing the victim was likely bludgeoned with a metallic object and knocked out clean before the gruesome aftermath occurred. He reasons that the material of the weapon is smooth and heavy, as the impact aligns more with a swift, decisive and dense strike, lacking any splinters, wood, or any other rough scratching that might happen with other crude weapons. He guesses it might be metallic, but can't say with certainty.

Besides the head contusion, he also notes fresh bruising in other places on the body. It doesn't appear to match the same bruising as Boo1268's from the previous night, so he suspects Winter may have been thrown while he was still alive.

It seems Vigil can offer no further insight. Despite the mess, this was a quick and clean execution. He mostly concurs with the state of things as they are, but adds this was a very cowardly attempt, and the killer "should offer thy head for retribution, swiftly".

He then heads to the Sewer to begin his analysis on Ratigan. Vigil moves a bit slow, so please wait warmly.

Investigate the Smokehouse. Against all better judgment, give the air a good whiff
You examine the Smokehouse. The flue of the chimney is heavily damaged, and there's something foul-smelling burning on a smoker, which is filling the room with a strange incense-like haze while there's no ventilation. You wince uncomfortably as you take a small breath, before Mona pulls you back in a hurry and flushes your face and nostrils with water grbrbgllgbgbbrbbrhhbrhlllll

Seemingly immune to the strange haze, Mona bursts a hole in the flue chimney, which is partially frosted over by ice, to let the air ventilate again. This clears the room up, and allows you to examine the remains of what's burning on the smoker. Seems to be some kind of plant matter. There's also a busted up handheld vacuum in here.

I'll check the lizard's inventory.
You examine Winter's belongings. Some of them appear to have been scattered near the train tracks. He seems to have been heavily armed, possessing a sledgehammer, some metallic cables, and a pair of gauntlets, with empty pages folded inside them. There are some shattered vinyl records. You note not one scrapbook grimoire, but five similar looking books scattered on his person, each in a plastic sleeve. Some of the sleeves have dragon blood on them, but are protecting the books within. Around his tail is a first-aid kit satchel, which seems depleted of a few bandages.

In the First-Aid Kit is a folded-over scrapbook page, and a single sentence is written on the outside.

"If I am dead, and you fight the False King, open and read aloud."

What is the state of the Nautical Exhibit? Fascia says Mr. Atmey mentioned some water there. Plus, it's above the kill area.

Likewise, the Armory is nearby and had a few others mention it, so Fascia and I will check that too.

Mr. Atmey is rude. If we're not careful, he'll hurt Fascia, like he's already hurt the other works of art here. My Maestro would call that boorish.

albina_2nd_closed.png

I agree.

What is the state of the Nautical Exhibit?
You examine the Nautical Exhibit. From the more-obvious exhibits, a diving suit and ship cannon are completely missing, and another appears to be wet. You note there's a slightly tilted telescope wedged into its stand, awkwardly pointing out towards the fake sea. The waves of the fake ocean rock gently. Some of the empty rum bottles are missing from one of the display crates, and it seems a few of the nautical items have generally been fiddled with. The Captain's Hat has been knocked off its mannequin display. Narrrr....

Check the crow's nest or the ground below the crow's nest for the gold axe
You find a golden axe wedged into the ground below the Crow's Nest on the east side. When you go to touch it... it vanishes into a ghostly mist.

atmey-mad.png

Huh?! Youse think I killed the dragon? Pssh! Everyone knows that tigers are a dragon's natural predator, not detectives. And everyone knows the great detective Luke Atmey's into mystery, not murder.

...Fine, no fancy music or embelishin' this time. We're goin' straight to the point. The less time I waste tellin' youse what I did, the more time I get to hunt down the little slime who's scapegoatin' me.

atmey-normal.png

I started my night goin' over to the Front Garden. I wanted to know what all the fuss last night was about fountains and Dark Moon shards. Last night, I found a legend about a blacksmith, cursed to make golden weapons, and figured there might be a connection with what people were sayin' last night. Doesn't seem like the puzzle has been solved yet, but I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Maybe if there was a parrot involved I would have a better time, but I can tell youse I ain't got no shards on me, so it's still up for grabs... assumin' no one else nabbed it after I came past. Not that I need any. I can survive on my own just fine. After learnin' all I could, I went to the graveyard to talk to Vigil, who was preparin' a grave for that psychic fraudster Reigen. Had a few questions for him about a legend I heard about a ghost with a lantern, and wanted to hear what he had to say. He told me a story from the times of old... an ancient battle between two ghosts, and one of 'em is a name youse might be familiar with. Might share some more once the investigation is over, but all I'll say for now is to remember my warning from our first day here: nothin' good comes from the Sun Stones. Stick with the Dark Moon shards.

Once I finished talkin' to Vigil, I went over to the Draftin' Office, grabbed some notes, and then went to the Archives to find some more. I heard people talkin' about Victor gettin' into the Mystery Room, so I thought I might find some blueprints or somethin' with a hint in them of how to get in. I also wanted to look into the mechanics of the Clockworks, so I spent a little time here. Once I wrapped up, I went to the Coatroom to find some disguises for myself, then went up through the Cargo Lift and into the Nautical Exhibit, grabbin' a couple of empty rum bottles, and noticin' there was a bit of water splashed around. Next, I headed into the Parlor, where I made friends with some little fire fellas, gettin' them into the bottles. Guess they like grog, huh? This was gonna be the part where I would find some poor sap to knock out and get rid of, but it was at this moment that I heard the clangin' of chains, and the cries of a monster. I could see him not too far off... a mummy, with broken cuffs and a big golden axe, lookin' ready to kill. Goin' into fight and flight mode, I hopped into the Armoury, quickly grabbin' some weapons, and runnin' into the Nautical Exhibit. The mummy started chasin' me, so I ran across the bridge to the Crow's Nest, and threw one of my fire wisp bottles at 'im. He staggered and dropped his axe, and I made a quick getaway through the Space Exhibit and into the Kitchen. The mummy was still close behind, so thinkin' quick on my feet, I decided to open up the dumbwaiter so I could incinerate him, since it seemed like I wouldn't be doin' that to anyone else tonight. As it opened I saw... somethin' gross. Like, a big, slimy mass that stank like fish. Had some faint flames on it too. It looked like it was gettin' bigger while it burned, too. It sludge it's way out toward the north, and the mummy and I kinda just stared at it for a bit... before we got back into our fight. Luckily, I managed to get him into the dumbwaiter, and got the incinerator goin', and that took him out.

Since my life wasn't in any mortal danger anymore, I figured I should leave the whole murder thing alone, and go back to my true love, mystery solvin'. Headin' into the Greenhouse just as Ghouligrab was leavin', I decided to do some investigatin' of the pumpkins, tryin' to figure out if they were hidin' any great secrets. I may have also opened the windows on the roof... permanently. Needed some fresh air, since the stinkin' fish ooze was still fillin' my nostrils. Once I was done here, I went down the Hollow Tree and grabbed some orange paint from the Studio, seein' MCD comin' in behind me. After that, I went to the Plant Nursery. I've heard a lot about this place the past couple days, things about Crimson Eyes and well-water plants... I knew that if I was gonna get to the bottom of this mystery, I'd have to dig deep. But someone else had already taken the botanical notes, so there actually wasn't much for me to do here, other than uprooting plants.

Once I was finished, I had one last trip to make. Headin' downstairs, I went into the Crypt, lookin' at a mysterious door that I couldn't get to open. It sounded like somethin' was pressin' against the other side, but I couldn't figure anythin' out about it. I didn't want to waste time gettin' lost in the Catacombs, so I instead went through the Basin, makin' myself a sick pair of skates with some blades I found in the Armoury earlier. I elegantly glided across the ice, and definitely didn't crawl across like a loser. Don't bother checkin' the ice. You can take my word for it. Gettin' across the room, I made it to the Tomb. As youse mighta picked up from what I've been mentionin', ever since I lost that fight with King Blocky Boo, I've been searchin' this place high and low, lookin' for information about powerful ghosts and their weaknesses. One of the trails led me here, to the Tomb, where a lady draped in leaves lay restin' in peace... well, until I started redecoratin' the place with the paint I grabbed earlier. Ya gotta let these ghost know you ain't afraid of 'em, youse catch my drift? Tanner showed up and got mad at me, so I had to finish my art project early, at which point I went straight back upstairs and into bed.

atmey-yikes.png

So there youse have it! I'm innocent, I tells ya! And whoever really did this better watch out...

atmey-mad.png

...because the Ace Detective is on the prowl, and he's hungry for your blood.

Likewise, the Armory is nearby and had a few others mention it, so Fascia and I will check that too.
One of the suits of armor is missing.

Let's check Under The Ice. Any changes from last night, missing items?
It looks like a shotgun has been taken.

The lump of iron in the mine cart, is it hollow inside? Are there any signs of damage to it?

Are there any jack-o-lanterns left in the Greenhouse, or anything else clearly out of place with the greater scene there?

Are there any jack-o-lanterns left in the Greenhouse, or anything else clearly out of place with the greater scene there?
Well, uh. The Greenhouse has been mostly destroyed. Many plants have been uprooted, the glass ceiling has been smashed (equality!), and there are no jack-o-lanterns, but there are a bunch of smashed pumpkins and pumpkin guts lying around.
