If the Nintendo Switch 2's active period is about as long as the Nintendo Switch, we might get the bigger heavy hitters eventually, at least. Which by my estimation would be:
Mario Kart (released)
Donkey Kong (released)
- Mario Tennis (announced with date)
- Yoshi (announced with window)
- NS2 exclusive 3D Super Mario platformer game
- NS2 exclusive 2D Super Mario platformer game
- NS2 exclusive Mario Party game
- Mario Golf
- Luigi's Mansion
- WarioWare (the higher price point for NS2 games would be interesting to see how this fares)
I am unsure if Dr. Mario will even get a release at this point, especially as a Switch 2 exclusive. It's still not gotten a new game on the Nintendo Switch, and I hope it's a new game and not merely a "Dr. Mario 99" that seems like the most predictable suggestion, because it would mean a dead end for the series since such a game would inevitably be about the 8-bit games, as though the series has no future (unlike even Mario Golf, which still has less sales than Dr. Mario, thanks to a great headstart).
Some wild predictions that I'll make:
- New game featuring a character who's never gotten a game before.
- Another Mario crossover with an unexpected IP, similar to what Mario + Rabbids is.
- Mario & Sonic getting a new game, could be another Olympics game or just a new direction
- New Mario sport that didn't get a new game dedicated to it. Could this be the horse racing's time to shine?
- New Mario platformer in the vein of the Donkey Kong arcade (I want this the most: I would love to see how Mario's platforming heritage could evolve from this, since Super Mario platformers have a rich history on how the platforming evolves)
Thank you for reading.
