Am I the only one who thinks the Mario Galaxy movie wasn't that good?

I'm not really sure, but I've found it more boring than the first one, and I also feel like everything happens too fast.

Well, give your opinion.

No you aren't.

i feel like i'm in the minority for being fine with it (outside some small nitpicks and thinking the first movie was still better)

The record box office and good audience reception are good indicators you aren't. Anyone you hear online loudly complaining about the movie are people who are loudly complaining about the movie (and also bought tickets for it knowing what they're getting themselves into).

I personally think the movie is not worth a watch, so I never bothered watching it.

I personally dislike the film. I think it was a step backward from the previous one (even though that one also wasn't great), and it felt like Nintendo diving headfirst into a pool of fan-service.

Same here. I remember getting out of the theater and believing it was the best official Mario movie. But now that the recency bias has worn off, Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach is still the best imo.

But yeah, you're definitely not alone. I've seen more haters than enjoyers for this movie.

I've thought that the perception that this film is subpar is the more popular opinion. It's a film I didn't find myself hot on, not only because there were parts I would prefer to see expanded on (Yoshi's tour in Brooklyn comes to mind), but the key characters are characters are either character I am OK with or indifferent to (though I think Fox is a brilliant inclusion), but the post-credits scene made it felt more worth it to me (if you have seen it, you might probably understand why).

Thank you for reading.

We had a discussion thread for it and we sure pointed out there are various issues even in the eyes of fans.

the first movie was still better
I think first movie did very well with mixing different games in order to do quick world building for the prologue of the franchise.

Galaxy, on the other hand, while it also mixed other games arguably not a good selection or arrangement. We got Fossil Falls for Odyssey, Wart's casino (even tho I love him, it still was a relunctant one for canon reason) and Star Fox insertion, all of them are not real canon Mario outerspace contents that can really help people understand Super Mario outerspace world, but more like what Nintendo personally want to push in any movie.

Mario Galaxy was a b eatiful game #welcome to my neeeewwwww GALAXYYYY!!! It is a real shame it didnt click with you .,,,,, ., maybe tr,y,, Galaxy 2 ??? Wooohooo #waaAaaAaaAAa!

I honestly don't think the movie was bad, but the movie could be better, there's a lot of things that could've done, why they didn't use the Mario aliens? Like the X-Nauts, Tatanga or the Shroobs? That doesn't mean that is bad for not having them, also the soundtrack of Super Mario Galaxy is a masterpiece why they don't used it (they used a bit of music of the game only)? Also they can used Wart more, unlike Spike that makes sense he only appears in two scenes of the first movie, but Wart is more a villain than a rival like Spike. But I have to say the movie is awesome but for the 40 anniversary some more commemoration to the franchise would be great.

I think the 'jingling keys' comparison is accurate because the 'movie' aspects are subpar but the aesthetics and references are really fun.

i think i've said this before but genuinely you can jingle keys at me all day if one of those keys is a fucking super paper mario reference. it sure beats having absolutely zero references to anything in that ballpark in the games (even though i'd love the reference even more if it appeared in a mainline or mario kart game)

I love the Baby Luigi appearances in both movies but I still found the second movie's writing to be absolutely terrible, and Baby Luigi's appearance in the second movie was wholly unnecessary. Even the first movie's Baby Luigi scene left me wanting more of an emotional impact than something that just...happens for like 10 seconds in a flashback that doesn't amount to anything if there is no script to work off of.

I like references and shit like anyone else. I love the LEGO movie, despite being a huge ass crossover with a lot of references. Lots of movies where I wasn't familiar with the IP I still enjoyed despite references going over my head (Spiderman No Way Home and Lego Batman movie). But what made them much more enjoyable was that it was actually a movie and not just a vehicle for references.

I don't get people who treat the movie like it should be a checklist of character appearances and nothing else, ignoring what makes movies good. The most important thing is, is the script good? You can look at references for 15 minutes and that's going to be your only takeaway from it and that's it your mega movie.

That's again a poor effort to force Yoshi Island reference in this movie, it could be funny but is ultimately a filler to the Galaxy story and cannot really please real Yoshi Island fans who want real scenes from Yoshi Island.

I find it weird they don't mind to send Yoshi to Brooklyn, then why not do that 25 years earlier when Yoshi did met Baby Mario twins and had some story there.
