this thread has seen the most activity in marioverse for a while

I don't believe that Yoshis and Koopas are in the same family to be honest. I mean, they're so drastically different in both looks and demeanor that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. 🫤

That's because you never gave it a thought
Yoshi's and Koopas have Alot in common you just don't see it

If it's not consistent it isn't a canon.
I looked it up, there is a canon
Just because it's not consistent every time doesn't mean there's just no canon, without a canon Mario should just be allowed to do whatever he wants like Rob a store or something because I would've never happened.
Every Mario game has a point, just because some things are retcon-ed doesn't mean it can't make sense, were talking about a kids game after all.

Sonic isn't consistent with when it's released and yet it has a canon

Back to my theory
Yoshi's are more wild then Koopas, yes
But you got a remember what environments they live in to act like this.
Most Yoshi's are born in forest where they would act animal like.
Koopas are born in bowsers empire where they become what they are

Also also Buzzy beetles (a Type of Koopa) is born with it's shell on

Ooooh I didn't read the highlighted part.
That just means we don't know what is and isn't true but there's still story telling and character development, it's just not in order or is it important

Yeah. Details are inconsistent so we can't establish a proper canon.

can we not make 9/11 jokes here thank you very much

Maybe Yoshis and Koopas are distant (and I mean very distant) cousins 🤔

I wouldn't say very distant but I definitely think they'd be cousins
Because there's dinosaurs like birdo and dorrie who share resemblance but also Koopas share resemblance with Yoshi's
So it's really a hybrid
