There is no canon. That doesn't mean they aren't shown to be alive.
Arguing for ancestry is incorrect since there is no canon.

Kamek also does not consider Yoshis to be Koopas in SMW2, just wanted to mention.

But, if you are going to talk Mario biology, Yoshis lay eggs on their own, which hatch into more Yoshis. That makes it impossible for Yoshi to be a hybrid.

"continuity" and "canon" are different. Games can retain information, elements, and "lore" from prior games. However, everything can be changed, making a "canon" impossible.
