The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Spring 2026)

Jrs voice…… euggh…….

I'm expecting it to hit like the same kind of really story-lite spectacle-heavy brisk pacing, a parade of references and fan service that was part of the original movie.
As said above, the first movie did a remarkable job with fusing many contents from other games beside the core SMB1. The first movie wasn't just SMB1, but the basis of the Super Mario world, that was the awesome part. But if Galaxy is just Galaxy, I worry that it wouldn't be as interesting as the first movie due to lacking both rich contents and meaningful tribute to the brand.
---- unless Orbulon and Tatanga are revealed to have important roles, but I believe voice actor list has denied that possibility now.

I think what I said basically contradicts that. If we're restrcited within Galaxy over an open storyline, it would only serve specific characters rather than giving lots of characters a good shot.

I mean voice casting pretty much determines the frame of the movie and we would not see more characters in major roles unless they can do that mutely.

Will Luigi finally use powerups other than the super star this time around? Because if you look closely at the scene of them on bikes in the Tosterana Town, it looks like him and Mario are using the cape feather powerup.

The new clip just came out and I just can't help but chat about it! I love how Luigi is taking an active role in the sequel and is a perfect partner for Mario! He's just so confident! The next thing I want to see is him using powerups (aside from the Super Star in the first movie) especially the super leaf and boomerang flower!

But what are your thoughts on the clip and trailers, and what do you hope to see when it comes out April 3, 2026?

Ok I know I'm super late to this but I finally saw the trailer today, and I really don't have any thoughts except wow. Just wow. Can't believe this is coming in less than half a year.

As I've seen, Luigi "having bad knees" (which he said at the end of the construction scene in the first one) came back after he jumped at Bowser Jr., and this same clip also shows us just how big Jr. is in this movie, because in the game Galaxy he was larger than Peach, so I'm not sure what to expect.

New trailer was kinda… short on info? It's cool that Birdo's here, and of course Yoshi is here as well, but it feels like they're REALLY keeping quiet about other characters and plot points until its release.

Also call it a hunch, but I think most of what we see the Mario Bros. doing is in the opening sequences of the film: finding Yoshi, battling a giant Cheep Cheep, at least up until the Star Festival and the main plot kicks off.

Hi Mara here
I am so sorry

I do kinda agree with Mighty on the brothers doing this in the opening sequence but I also have kind of a hunch that in the middle that may find Yoshi since this is the Tostando kingdom and that didn't appeared unto Odyssey.

Good to know that both of the brothers can use their fire powers

Also I'm so glad the frog suit is there I really want to see the Hammer suit so badly so all the SMB3 fans are going to go nuts
Toad getting eated by a cheep cheep may happen during the middle of the movie

I may think that they're going to find Yoshi in the either in the or in the beginning of the movie also, BIRDO!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it's sure good news to know Birdo also has a part in story, so we at least get four main cast introduce in this film. Altho I'm still very upset that Toadette isn't introduced.

It looks like they'd explain the Yoshi story with baby magic, which is okay, but the bigger problem here is how much time the main cast are gonna spend on Earth in a space themed movie? As I said before, if you want to focus on other main cast outside Galaxy, the theme would kinda mess up.

I think it may be on different planets, I'm guessing?

You know I wonder if Wart is going to be here? Because they did say deep cut characters

So is it going to be like partners in time? They're going to do time travel right?

Wait, did Yoshi just call Luigi Mama? this is going to be a total meme now

Mouser's here too, and so is Clawgrip. One big SMB2 reunion!

Well the thing is. we've got Kart and Tennis, two major rosters on NS2 and both games barely try to handel nogstalia and fandemand.

Sure I want to be optimisitc about Mouser joining via DLC because I'm super nogstalic for Super Show, but for actual chances, the thing is Foreman Spike would had been in a couple of new games at this point as the first movie already came out years ago.

I personally think they should focus on marketing modern canon over putting deep cut for just one scene, if they don't really have much more major plans for the deep cut anymore.

----

That said, if we're entirely basing on Super Show canon, Mouser isn't necessarily Wart's minion in modern canon. Not sure if he'll be given another new identity if he is also not Bowser's minion anymore. Feels like he is some kind of casino manager here.

I think Nintendo has been seeing a lot of people nostalgic for Mario Galaxy, and decided to make an entire anniversary and movie focused on that. I wouldn't consider Galaxy canon "new", but I think its still modern enough.

Also, Lakitu finally returns to the big screen after 40 years. That is a big win in my book. Too bad the movie is one big April Fools joke.

If there is a whole Ninji scene where Peach fights them, can they please include the Ninji Disco theme? They already showed Wonder Bowser Jr. so they might as well include another wonder reference. Plus, that's just my favorite theme from Wonder.

this is the best shot of the movie because LOOK there are BABIES. And I love how Toad is carrying them, because I love Toad. I also love how Baby Luigi is getting even more screen time here! I do assume that there's going to be a segment where Mario and Luigi get turned into babies because...I mean it's not a flashback, Toad is in this picture. I also love how both babies just get excited at that giant ass T-Rex roaring at them, they look so funny.

However, I do echo several concerns some people have. The movie looks like it's going to repeat all the same issues I had with the first movie, where it's just mostly spectacle and throwing in references and characters at the screen than telling any actually good stories here. There's so much mish mash of crap in here that there will almost certainly be no slow scenes of a story focus yet again. They put in Odyssey crap, SMB2 crap (Birdo and Mouser), possibly Yoshi's Island, the Frog Suit, on top of Rosalina (who I think will not be getting much screen time in the movie, she hasn't appeared in the trailer at all), Bowser Jr. (also I think not getting much screentime), Super Mario Bros. Wonder stuff, and idk. Obviously, this worked for the first movie (it's Illumination's best performing movie) but it looks like it's going to be yet another pretty-looking popcorn flick for Mario fans to point at the screen and go "hey I recognize that" and that gets old very quick.

I can't stand Yoshi's voice in the trailer (which is expected out of me). At least he doesn't talk much, I don't want to put up with an hour and a half of his Jar Jar Binks impression.

IMO this was meant to be like a "hey here's Yoshi and some other fun stuff" and not like a full blown trailer. They labeled it as a "Yoshi First Look" so I'm going to assume they're still kind of keeping things under wraps for a bit.

I think the possibility of a Super Bowl trailer is high, because marketing will undoubtedly ramp up closer to release and NBC is airing the Super Bowl this year so of course they want everyone to get a glimpse of the new Mario movie during a big sporting event.

Hmm...for a second trailer, this feels a bit underwelming. I like that Birdo is here, and that Luigi's getting a more active role in the plot, but other than that, this just felt like an extended look at Yoshi and nothing else. I'm glad he's keeping his normal voice from Kazumi Totaka instead of using a huge movie star like everyone else. But I feel that any sort of proper character development or worldbuilding is getting shafted in favor of references and gags. I know this is par for the course in terms of most Illumination sequels, but fans and critics expect more than the bare minimum these days.

>movie based on mario galaxy, likely to feature rosalina, adoptive mother of the lumas
>introducing bowser jr. with sunshine influence could mean an adaptation of the iconic "mama peach" story arc
>luigi in the last film was kidnapped and therefore would benefit from a new character arc in this film
>movie is also introducing yoshi

you know what it's time for, everyone

there's a bit of a switcheroo, but honestly not as far from the truth as you would expect

I think this issue was not clear in the first movie because it didn't have a real themed sub-title, and this time we have. For movies and vidoegames, themed sub-titles make really big impact on the image of the show for people to remember the uniqueness of the movie. Otherwise just count by number if you cannot use a sub-title correctly.

It's fine for Miyamoto to try to show everything around Super Mario world and that's appreciable, but all early games have too little to do with Galaxy, so the plot must come up with some relunctant story to connect them. But at least we can confirm that Rosalina isn't in most of the adventures so that kinda wastes her early debut.
