Are the 3D Land/World games a part of 3D Mario, or it's own thing entirely?

So, there's 2 sides of the coin; 2D and 3D, but with 3D Land and 3D World, it's sort of a middle ground, and I don't know if it's even right to call the 3D Adventures a 3D Mario, more it's own thing.

If they aren't a part of 3D Mario, what category are they in? 2.5D? Do we start calling 3D Mario's "Full 3D Mario"s and the 2 games "Part 3D Mario"s?

Nintendo themselves called 64, Sunshine and Odyssey 'miniature garden games' while Galaxy, Galaxy 2, 3D Land and 3D World are 'stage clear games' so there you go.

I see them as a part of the "Super Mario 3D platformer series" myself.

Similar to what a couple of people have said: I do see these as being 3D Mario games, but I also see them as being a separate entity from the likes of 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, etc.

64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2 and Odyssey are open world games

No, they're not. Open world games typically encompass a singular huge world and doesn't have linear progression.

Breath of the Wild's progression is anything but linear tho?

After you leave the plateau you basically just do whatever the fuck you want
