Dr. Mario World

I personally prefer when they are treated as individual characters and they try to build on their own traits, like in this case:
SMRL-Line-BowserJr-Lemmy.gif
I mean obviously. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam did that, and so did the Mario & Luigi remakes. I'm just saying, having some but not all is a huge pet peeve of mine with a few certain games (lookin at you Mario & Sonic)

Lemmy goes on a ball in this game. He has an animation where he spawns a ball out of nowhere and hops on it. He doesn't even use a wand, a ball literally just materializes from underneath him.

Wow, Lemmy's a better spellcaster than initially thought. Is the wand waving all just a show?

At last, I finally got to play Dr Mario World again, and with that, I get to view my stats so far. One notable thing in this list thus far is that I managed to get not one, but two Level 3 doctors! Because Dr. Mario is Level 3, I prefer him over Dr. Fire Mario for charging skill faster. Also, after I returned to the game, I drew Dr. Baby Wario not once, but twice. However, I didn't manage to get Yellow Shy Guy, which is unfortunate.

There's a star event going on, but unfortunately, there isn't much time left as there are basically two days before it expired, and I don't know if I can manage to get the necessary 40 stars to redeem the full prize. Mainly because World 15 Area 2 is incredibly difficult so far, which as you can see, I got 1 star in two of the stages, which is unsatisfactory.

Thank you for reading.

It's funny how I got four more Level 3 doctors, and personally, getting Yoshi to level 3 is quite nice because of his overall useful skill. I kind of wish I got a different doctor other than Peach, though, even though I got three new copies. Someone else might appreciate more Peaches, though. As of now, I only have six unavailable staff: four of them are doctors and two of them are assistants. It's fortunate that I got Wario, which is one of the best doctors in the game in stage mode, but unfortunately for me, I missed the Whomp King every time he appears in the battle boxes.

For stage mode, I have caught up with the current world, but not the current area. Perhaps I will catch up with the current world the next time a new area appears. In VS, I have recently been using Yoshi, and although one might look at his stats compared to Fire Mario and consider him inferior, due to Yoshi's low defences and slightly higher AP to attack, I felt that Yoshi is overall easier to use and his ability is a bit better as a cleaner compared to Fire Mario since the latter has a bit of lag when he uses his skill. Plus, Yoshi's skill has a faster charge. Not to say that Fire Mario is bad, but it's that Yoshi is not outclassed by Fire Mario.

There are a couple of notable things happening in Dr. Mario World so far:

1) 8-bit Dr. Mario is available, and on Dr. Mario's 30th anniversary no less! This doctor is basically based on Dr. Mario for the NES, which is a nice throwback (I actually thought it was going to be similar to the Dr. Mario sprite from Super Mario Maker, so I'm glad I'm wrong). His skill is to completely eliminate any virus that has a special condition, like being frozen, which is very handy since they are usually more difficult to get rid of. He only clears three of them, so it's not as much as Kamek who completely eliminate four (of the same colour instead).

His VS skill is incredibly powerful: it prevents the opponent from controlling half-capsules, which can be devastating because controlling those are a key part of doing well in VS. Good thing he's not yet available in higher levels. His stats are also pretty decent, with good defences against 1-bomb, 2-bomb and 4-bomb, and he's a 4-bomb user himself.

2) Occasionally there would be staffing (gacha, in layman's terms) where there is a higher chance of getting a doctor, from 20% to 30%. This event is not only that, but it does something far more interesting: a specific doctor will have a much higher chance of being drawn, which means that on specific days, it is easier to get that doctor. For example, Wario is today's doctor so if you need Wario, it's best to see if you can get him. I will be fishing for Roy and checking with a few others like Nabbit, Fire Mario, Fire Luigi and Fire Rosalina.

The new update just added the Summit Mode.

But the real news for me is the game display finally supporting android devices with taller screens. No more weird black void on the bottom of the screen.

Does the game have an ending yet?

Does the game have an ending yet?
The game has just recently had a version upgrade, the current world is only at its first half and there are at least two more planned worlds in the future. What do you think?

Thank you for reading.

I dunno, I don't have a phone.

Dr. Blooper is coming.

Sunken Ghost Ship themed. Nice!

BTW, what are the music tracks in the Summit modes? I heard that these are from Dr. Mario 64.
EDIT: Ok, Cube (Sneeze) and Que Que (Cough) are used for the Summit menu and Summit stage respectively.

Also, it seems that the music for the startup screen, game over and Daily Booster are all-new Dr. Mario music.

All right, I've played Skill Summit, and I must say that it's a very cool side mode, and in a few ways a better version of the Clinic Events from previously.

For those of you who don't know what Skill Summit is about, it's basically similar to the regular stage mode where players need to complete the objective(s) before they run out of capsules. There is one huge difference that makes it exciting: a specific doctor will lend their skill after you introduce enough capsules to the stage. Some doctors don't need a lot, such as Luigi (3), but some require a lot, such as Bowser (7). This is kind of reflected by their skill requirement since Luigi takes less to charge but Bowser has a larger skill gauge. It should be noted that you must use their skill before you can bring another capsule. so you can't always strategically delay its use (you can still use your skill).

The doctor that you can select has a restriction: you can't use the same doctor as the featured doctor, which means that you can't use Bowser if Bowser's the mentor, which is appropriate. Oh, and it should be pointed out the variants count as the same character. That means you can't use Baby Peach even though the mentor is Peach.

Stages are separated by difficulty: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Special. Each difficulty has seven stages, each called "summits". Beating the stage will reward the player with "kudos", which are basically medals and act like the stars in the regular stages. Reaching certain benchmarks will reward the player with some goodies, but most important: getting all 84 kudos-es (4 difficulties * 7 stages * 3 kudos) will reward a doctor, which is a very good reward because doctors are not easy to come by.

And if you beat all stages in a difficulty, you can get power-ups for 24 hours and a reward, being Staff Tickets for the first 3 difficulties and 100 Doc tokens for the most difficult one. These power-ups make the stages easier, and is especially helpful in the Special stages since they are all difficult. It only goes up to World 15 currently, which is fine in my opinion, because World 15 is pretty difficult. Since I have already reached World 18, I won't be making much use of it.

It's an exciting new mode, and it's little wonder the Twitter mentioned to check it out ourselves (due to Twitter's 280 character limit): it has a lot going for it.

Sunken Ghost Ship themed. Nice!

The one after that is Halloween-themed, so I am guessing the doctor would be a ghost to fit with it.

Skill Summit stage select: Cough/Cube
Skill Summit stage: Sneeze/QueQue

I like that Sneeze is the theme for the stages because that is in my opinion the better of the two.

I stopped playing because I cannot triple star Special 7-A, even with a free hour of infinite hearts, it's too goddamn difficult, and I need to do it to unlock Dr. Baby Luigi.

The developers made an effort to make the challenge stages easier this update. I have checked five worlds (2, 3, 4, 8 and 9) and found out how much easier they made them. Some of them have timer increases, including 7B, but a few had stage revamps (example: 3A, 4B). Even the "best doctors" aren't all Wario (a sign that the challenge stages were difficult, before the update).

Plus, the Skill Summit has rewards in Score +10% and Skill charge +60% (and Capsule +2 but it's irrelevant for challenges) so if you clear enough of them the boost can be used for it (since it activates only for stages up to World 15).

I also think the requirements are far too stringent. In order to triple star 7-A from my experience, you need 20+ seconds left in the timer. Unless you play VS mode for a living, that's incredibly strict, and even when I feel like I did well, bam, I don't even come close to getting it. It's a gigantic difficulty spike compared to the other stage mode stages in the game, which can get difficult to triple star, but not to this degree. Not to mention, timed stages eat up your hearts like nothing, the stage mode stuff does not.

A quick update on what I have found out so far about the World 7 challenges (layouts are still the same):
7-A: 75s -> 100s
7-B: 60s -> 80s
7-C: 70s -> 85s

I wouldn't doubt that scoring can be daunting. Even though I completed a test run on two of the stages above with a lot of time to spare (except 7C where I made a mistake and failed; it's a scrolling stage), the score still looked like it does require a lot. But at least they are more manageable than before. Funny that you mention that the challenges are a difficulty spike, only because some players think that stage mode is more -difficult on account that they have a faster sense of control (helped by unlimited capsules).

The game also has some extra ways to earn characters: now there's always a character sale and a referral. The former is basically getting that character (currently, it's Dr. Luigi) along with diamonds (200+10) and referral is paying diamonds (100) to acquire that character (currently, it's Dr. Peach). Who knows: Baby Luigi might even show up in either of them. My gut instinct tells me that he will be a referral. Since they are related to the Skill Summit, I can see that Baby Luigi will be included if he's a mentor in the summit.

It should be noted that this is the stage. The datamined medal implies that there will be a pumpkin house, so maybe this is a case where the second half of the map could be drastically different from the first. Although we haven't seen the assistant yet. I am going to guess that it's Bone Goomba for this round of update.

At this point I already have all the doctors and assistants, and it feels like I have a lot of freedom because everything's available, even if they are not all high-leveled.

Thank you for reading.

It should be noted that Dr. King Boo is going to be like Dr. Dry Bowser: it cannot be drawn normally and is only purchasable as a pack. In fact, effective today for a week, it can be purchased (though who here would do that anyway?). As mentioned in the Tweet that accompanied the image, Dr. King Boo is going to be World 20's Special Stage reward, similar to how Dr. Dry Bowser is available in World 10 so everybody can at least get this doctor at Level 1.

This is actually World 20's theme, by the way:
