Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

i don't think that would be terrible... sleep moves aren't too common and the one used most often (spore) already has 100% accuracy. you could also just give it a chesto berry.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

If you give it a Chesto Berry, you have to forgo your Life Orb, Choice Item, or Leftovers though, and those items are pretty damn valuable.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

well that is if it actually evolves into something competitively viable
another option is giving it sleep talk

Late, but the koala's ability definitely needs to have so some sort of drawback because it honestly seems too good, especially since some abilities only prevent one type of status from occurring to the affected Pokemon while this ability prevents all status conditions except sleep.

About time we got some of the Zygarde forms. IIRC, the only form we have yet to see in-game now is the Zygarde core (the blob thing).
It looks like the koala might be this gen's obligatory early game mammal like Rattata, Zigzagoon, Bidoof, etc. You might not need to worry about having to fight a super strong Pokemon with this ability.
To be fair, aside from some legendaries and "gimmicky" Pokemon, I don't think there's ever been an ability that has only been obtainable on one Pokemon or its evolutions, both normally obtainable and hidden. Of course, I might be wrong, but I'd be surprised if this ability was exclusive to this Pokemon.

What if, in addition to all status effects except sleep failing, putting it to sleep is always a guaranteed success?

That would turn the ability from pretty OP to absolute shite.
I was thinking this exact same thing too, which would make Hypnosis a bit more useful if this Pokemon were ever to become viable in some shape. I wonder if touching a Pokemon with Effect Spore would automatically make it fall asleep too.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

Treehouse is showing gameplay right now. Good look at battle screen.

-Separate pokeball button during battles
-New helpful battle interface that shows how a Pokemon's stats have changed over the course of a battle
-Can check a move's properties at the touch of a button
-Yungoos, a new Pokemon.

-New Woodpecker bird, Pikipek.

-Rival has the starter weak to yours.
-New mode BATTLE ROYALE. 1v1v1v1
-Clothes customization is back
-Grubbin, new bug type

-Stakeout's effect: This Ability means that the Pokémon’s moves can deal twice the normal damage to any Pokémon that switches in or enters the field mid-battle. -Soul Heart's effect: This Ability raises Magearna’s Special Attack by 1 each time another Pokémon in the arena faints.
-It also noted the change in the appearance of Solgaleo and Lunala while they do their signature moves as being called Radiant Sun phase & Full Moon phase

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

Watching Nintendo Treehouse, I've come to this conclusion:

I NEED THIS GAME AND I NEED IT NOW

YUNGOOS AND PIKIPEK ARE SO STINKIN ADORABLE

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

I am so hyped for FFA battles.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

grubbin is adorable but i'm 99% sure it'll evolve to be just the regional shitty bug pokemon that every generation has to have for some reason

Hopefully it's badass like Scolipede.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

Yungoos looks more like the HM slave of this region than the koala (Iwanka?) and Pikipek is definitely the obligatory first route bird. I'm kind of meh on Grubbin, but I hope it looks cool when evolved. Likely the obligatory early game bug though.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

So based on what we've seen, we've already filled most of the token niches that every game has.

Starters- Rowlet, Litten, Popplio
Box Legendaries- Solgaleo, Lunala, (Marshadow?)
Early game mammal/rodent- Yungoos
Early game bird- Pikipek
Early game bug- Grubbin

Still waiting for:
Pikachu clone
Fossils
Pseudo-Legendary

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

One thing that kinda ticks me off is that with the Pokemon website, with the descriptions of the main legendaries (Solgaleo and Lunala), they end up saying it's a new ability that no other Pokemon has but it's literally just another name/clone for Clear Body and Multiscale, respectively.

Also for the Koala Pokemon that's supposedly able to "ignore" status bar sleep, does that actually mean it can still be afflicted with such a status but not suffer from its effects (i.e. it can take a burn but not take damage nor the attack drop)? If so, that'd be one hell of a status absorber. Or do non-sleep status problem inducing moves and secondary effects just literally not work?
^I was also thinking to circumvent sleep you could just run Substitute on it (which would then only leave you vulnerable to... Meloetta's Relic Song cause it's sound-based).

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

I actually like the second set more than the first set.

Re: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New starters and cover legendaries revealed)

Was iffy on the designs but they're growing on me. Really like what looks to be Grubbin's final evolution and that Normal/Dragon.
