Top 10 Mario RPG's

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

Maybe I've been a bit hard on Super Paper Mario.

Sure, the story wasn't great, but it tried.

As much as I hated some tedious moments, it still was fun being able to play as the different characters and use the different Pixls.

Still, I feel this should have been its own game. It doesn't feel very Mario-ish besides the main characters appearing. Maybe (and this is just an idea I'm throwing out) the Pixls could have been the main characters. Maybe make it a turn-based RPG (although I'm not quite sure how the flipping could be preserved).

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

^In TTYD, something similar to flipping happened in battle sometimes with a Shy Guy from the audience. Not really that much, but maybe flipping in battle could reveal another attack point on a boss or something. I dunno, but if SPM was turn-based I'd just scrap the flip mechanic or only use it outside battle.

okay since spm and ttyd have a reasonable spot on your list and sticker star is almost at the bottom i will forgive you
but still

why

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

Because Sticker Star isn't a bad game. It's very unique and fun. (Not in terms of story though. But the original N64 version didn't have the most creative story either). But I agree that it shouldn't have been labeled as "Paper Mario: Sticker Star".

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

Why not? It's the most paper of the bunch so the title is still accurate.

Right, it was called Mario Story.

Yet another strike against Sticker Star.

Not really considering it still plays out like a book.

Sticker Star does have a story

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

It's not much, but it does technically have one.

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

Whether you like it or if it's good or not, it still has basic plot mechanisms

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

World 3 probably had about as much plot as your average PM64 chapter.

Re: Top 9 Mario RPG's

I'd like to not talk about that any further.

(also here's the other joke i contemplated making here:)

>Sticker Star
>Story

But a series that started with a game that had Story in the damn name, every installment should've been strong in that department.

Not to mention literally every Mario RPG before it had a story I enjoyed. I don't have high standards for enjoying a story, all it has to do is introduce a handful of new characters and make the game feel at least somewhat like a book.

I know I've said I want a platformer with an SPM level story but that's really just wishful thinking. I don't absolutely require it, and I love every RPG except Sticker Star.

Your logic is analogous to saying that Maple Story or Yoshi's Story needs a strong story because it has the word "story" in the title.

If it's an RPG and it has that in the title, yes.

You'll be surprised to find out what Maple Story is

Also you're moving goalposts

I've never heard of it.

Didn't Zae and I write out before that not all RPGs have stories or did you just blatantly ignore my and Zae's post and continue bathing in delusions?

Maple Story is an MMORPG and I'm seriously surprised you had never heard of it; it was a fairly popular MMORPG at the time it came.
