So once I made a headcanon about why the Koopalings aren't Bowser's children anymore, and why they look so different without bringing maturity in the mix. It also covers up Bowser's death in Mario is Missing!. However, it is questionable due to the existence of alternate universes. I don't actually believe in this theory, but it's here for you to ponder.

After SMB3, Bowser from an alternate universe kidnapped Mario for MiM!, and the Koopalings did as he said. This alternate Bowser was split in half at the end of the game. The "main" world's Bowser took back the Koopalings, and eventually M&LSS happens. Offscreen, Bowletta accidentally tripped into the Koopalings, making them fall in lava. For NSMBW, Bowser took the orphaned Koopalings from the MiM! Bowser's universe and made them captains of his army. He doesn't consider these Koopalings his children, and that is why they aren't his children any more.

(the original version instead had Bowser abandon the Koopalings after SMW, due to only taking the main series into account, albeit with MiM! still in the canon)

Any appearances of the Koopalings' old designs take place prior to M&LSS. The cartoons and any other ones with unusual appearances of Bowser or the Koopalings take place in an alternate universe.

Wario Kidnaps Peach more often than Bowser does. The only difference is that Peach always escapes herself when its Wario that does it because Wario is too dumb to keep an eye on her.

Rosalina doesn't really exist. She is just an imagination made visible to all by Luma magic.

5 Toads and Toadette are siblings, the Toads ion that are consisting of 1 Toad of each color in Mario Super Sluggers.

All the coins in the Mushroom Kingdom have magical powers and appear out of thin air which is why the characters are able to survive without eating.

In an alternate Marioverse, everything is the same but Waluigi and Wario are switched, Daisy and Peach are switched, and Luigi and Mario are switched in their roles.

Whenever a Toad pops up in Bowsers Castle, Bowser lets them leave the castle, hoping his mercy on them will make Peach love him.

Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, and Baby Daisy are really just the children of their adult counterpart and the spouse of.
In addition, Peach and Daisy are siblings.
This means that Baby Mario and Baby Peach are siblings.
This also means that Baby Luigi and Baby Daisy are siblings.
This also means that all 4 of them are Double Cousins to eachother.

Well, Wario IS the real bad guy in our headcannon. He's a creepy stalker guy that wants to marry everyone. When he dies from exploding, everyone celebrates until he respawns. Even Bowser and his minions.

Are Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Daisy one family unit then, or which people are legally responsible for each child?

For me, Mario and Luigi are legally responsible for Baby Mario and Baby Luigi while Daisy is responsible for Baby Peach and Baby Daisy (Peach gets kidnapped far too much). Keep in mind, nobody is married, but somebody's gotta take care of the children.
 
This is something I've only thought about recently, but I'm beginning to think that Daisy is to Peach what Wario is to Mario, and Waluigi is to Luigi.

Though I guess that makes my mentioning of a Waisy in another thread kinda void.

Actually, Luigi has good Relations with Daisy in MSS and no relation with Peach in that same game.
