I never played a Professor Layton game but he seems cool so I would be fine with it
 
- IMDB edited to say Layton's actor is in Smash a couple months ago
- Someone tweets him asking
- He replies it's fake right after (back in July).
- He replies to that same question again today, except this time, saying he IS in Smash after his last recording session.
- He replies to another question about it with the same updated answer.
- He locks his account down completely.

technically speaking, they could give him lines to record for the possibility of putting layton in but haven't actually decided if they're doing it yet
 
SSB4 is going down for maintenance soon. Might be nothing, but the time frame of it lines up with when previous DLC updates have come out. Plus, they've really been advertising Wave 3 DLC a lot recently on the eshop and Wii U quickstart menu.

It's a longshot, but here's hoping to something. i'd be fine with just a balance patch as well.
 
We usually get a warning if some new content is coming so I'm willing to bet it's nothing too big. At best it may be more Mii Fighter costumes and/or a new DLC stage. (With a potential balance/stability patch if need be)

People expecting an answer to either the recent Professor Layton or the Shovel Knight rumors are just going to be led off the mark and made anxious as we reach ever closer to the closing of the ballot in October.

We weren't warned about Roy and Ryu. Remember that would've been a total surprise if it wasn't leaked. That being said, I don't know if we'll get anything new but it would be nice.
 
Well hopefully Nintendo learns their lesson and NOT patch their game before release date.
 
There could be a chance of waiting to release the update after maintenance is done here though. The maintenance has started here and I feel a bit hyped but I won't be upset if nothing is announced.

Likely because every maintenance before this came at the same time as DLC getting added and/or a Balance Patch. Not to mention the looming rumors about Shovel Knight, Professor Layton, etc. going on

Hindsight bias is 20/20. But I wasn't expecting anything huge either. :P
