basically what he's saying is that ridley is not too big

too bad people will still use the same excuse until ridley is actually confirmed.

Kinda annoying actually as ridley has been different sizes throughout the metroid franchise.

So with the upcoming direct. It's likely going to be Diddy revealed somewhere. But in the case we get a Newcomer. Dixie or even King K. Rool is possible (Maybe Cranky, but I don't want to be online if it's him of all characters).

There's also rumors that Diddy & Dixie are going to be a tag team in SSB4 similar to Ice Climbers. So maybe watch out for that as well possibly.

As any identity the Spin-off series give them aren't going to suddenly make them more likely for Smash Bros. As Rosalina's appearence shows, it's appearances in the Main games (Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario 3D World most of all) that count along with character popularity and success of the game (Super Mario Galaxy) they're from, as well as a bit of recency. When Waluigi has as much chance as Daisy, she's in big trouble. Because there's also Toad and Bowser Jr. to deal with.

First of all, I don't think that's doing with being in a spinoff or not because that only means Waluigi should be in a mainstream game before Rosalina. It's just as you said, there are many other important regulars so it's not for both Waluigi or Rosalina's turn.
And while Wario's pass was due to his own series, another issue is Waluigi's disappearance in Wario series.
