Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

Melty Monster Galaxy. That's all I have to say. One of the most awesome tracks a Mario game has ever had. And I just love the sound the Launch Star makes when playing that level.

Mario Kart World, while solid, did not get snubbed for best soundtrack for The Silly Trophy Show.

The live action Super Mario Bros film is a fever dream and not necessarily in a good way. The Koopa Troopa is mostly human and their animal forms are creepy. The 2023 animated movie was an amazing redemption and will likely continue a NCU (Nintendo Cinematic Universe lol) after the Galaxy Movie.

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix was a cool and unique concept. Too bad they don't make wild stuff like that anymore 😔

I really wish they made another DDR like game, idk ANY new genre. Last wack thing we got was Mario + Rabbids, I want another game like that.

Bee Mushroom is actually not the worst powerup in Galaxy 1 and 2. The worst powerup might be the Spring Mushroom because it is pretty hard to maneuver.

I hate power-ups where they fuck around with your controls, Spring Mushroom is no exception to that.

I absolutely hate the Spring Mushroom for that reason! I'm so glad I'm not alone :yoshi:

Mario Kart Wii is better and more fun the Mario Kart 8

The US/EU version of Super Mario Bros. 2 is really good

Baby Park is absolute chaos in the best way

I think this is most people's take, the Bee Mushroom has expected controls & just slightly slows you down and makes you heavier, as opposed to the spring mushroom completely removing all reliable forms of traditional control and forcing you to move entirely in jump arcs with little control over it once you're in the air. I'm not sure in what universe the Bee Mushroom is the most hated, there's just that one youtube video making that claim.

Was it Nin10doland? I remember that he made a video on that. I watched it once and honestly also disagreed in his claims that the Cloud Flower is better. I mean, Cloud Flower is not as bad as Spring Mushroom, but it's not perfect either. I think instead of having to collect another one to replenish your three clouds after you use them, I think it should instead have it where they respawn after a few seconds.

I swear people like Waluigi Pinball only because of the music and the theme, and not the actual layout itself.

I mean, I adored the track when I first played it. It gives you off an amazing first impression of flying through that tunnel with that incredible soundtrack and having sound effects unique to the course, but the actual layout is you spending most of the track in some nondescript lane over the actual table itself, and I've come to realize that it's not that great of the track. It's still a great track but...Shroom Ridge is my favorite Flower Cup course in Mario Kart DS anyway.

I agree with Xiahou Ba that Waluigi Pinball is overpraised because of its flashy looks and its catchy song. Personally I like Delfino Square the best of the Flower Cup tracks. A little guilty liking of mine is Desert Hills. (Manly due to the Wii ultra shortcut)

Desert Hills would have been fun in 200cc Mario Kart 8 ngl

Have you ever tried Baby Park on 200cc with only blue shells? That is the definition of insanity. My friends and I like to do that sometimes when we play together.

idk i'm too concerned they'll screw that up and it's very hard to get right. like the voice acting in the mario movie is already controversial, and it's at a Hollywood level where outside of voice direction & casting choice, at least the execution of that direction is competent and gets the job done. that's on a movie budget though and it still left a bad taste in some people's mouths (i'm fine with it for the record but still). I don't often play games with voice acting, but I have heard plenty of voice acting from trailers in Nintendo Directs and based on that, no i don't want Mario RPG characters talking like that.

There's great fanmade takes on voice acting for characters, but I don't trust Nintendo not to screw it up. And the current "text based dialogue and little voice clips for exclamations/laughs/etc" method is tried and true and conveys everything I need from these characters personally. Only thing I'd actively advocate for is to give the standard style of voice clips to characters who did not have them before. M&L games usually give voices to most of their important OCs, but Paper Mario games rarely do. I'd like to hear what Dimentio's laugh sounds like for example.

I really think you're being too cautious with how voice acting will be done. Multiple Nintendo IPs implemented it, namely Fire Emblem, WarioWare, and Zelda and there have been no problems. Star Fox wouldn't be as iconic as it is without its lines. Advance Wars remake got voice acting and I appreciated that. And honestly, I don't think Super Mario Sunshine is all that bad in the grand scheme of things, people seriously overblow how bad it is.

If you're talking about Fire Emblem, I guarantee tonally, Mario characters will not sound like that. They'll sound more like this:

Hollywood voice actors historically have done terrible jobs in games, there's a reason there's a massive outcry over David Hayter as Snake being replaced by Keith Sutherland in Metal Gear and Peter Dinklage being recast by Nolan North in Destiny because he did a terrible job. A reason people don't like Chris Pratt is because he's a stock generic choice who doesn't fit the character well, which is very typical for Hollywood tbh. Hollywood level doesn't necessarily mean good voice acting, so many voice actors are game specific and have done great jobs within games, namely the GTA V protagonists.
