im more focused on the racing games, the platformers, and the rpgs.
mario karts to me dont seem that good, sluggish and very bad balance. This is really seen in smk, mk64, and mksc. Wii and dd was here and there, and mk7 is here and there too.
Ai can be a bit unfair in my opinion especially in some of the later games as it seems like times where every ai player just sends item in your direction, which is dumb.
I like most tracks though, and most modes, although mk8's battle mode seems really pathetic. Can't say i like a lot of its music either, aside from rainbow road i cant really think of many songs.
I'd say the worst of it though is smk, mk64, mksc, and mkds. Alot of mario kart games just seem so blown out of porportion, especially when there are more deserving racing gaems such as kirby's air ride, f-zero gx, extreme-g 3, sonic & sega allstars transformed and maybe some others.
platformers i usually like but going back and playing them and they just feel kinda meager. While smb2, 3, and w still hold up. smb1, lost levels, the hordes of nsmb games, just seem so.... bland. Honestly compared to some other platformers i like, such as shantae, they feel lacking, also more fond of castlevania(not the platformer rpgs) than these. Idk about the yoshi and wario games, im mostly neautral on them. the 3d platformers are alright though, well at least sm64 and sms, even though those have issues of their own, they often do well in other categories.
as a lot of you know, im not fond of smg, mostly due to its massive linearity compared to the previous 3d platformers and its just not enjoyable compared to other 3d platformers like spyro, jak 2, and ratchet & clank. Maybe im being unfair but smg was just not very interesting, i mean the gravity thing was a neat idea but it often didnt really seem to be used to full advantage, or maybe im more dislking the insanely small size of each galaxy, not sure. Although ill praise the living hell out of smg's ost. smg2 looks horrible in my opinion, ive not played it, but im not really impressed with the ost and it seems even more linear than smg. Ive heard people say its hard, but ive seen some lps and other gameplay videos and it just seems as easy... actually it seems EASIER in a lot of areas.
my next beef is the rpgs. As probably the entire community knows i adore rpgs to my hearts content. While i do like pm 1 & 2, as well as m&lss and bowsers inside story. I still feel that these games are ungodly overrated, while they are good games, but so many people proclaim these games are like the second coming of christ or something. Maybe its because so many rpgs now have better combat systems and more battle customization.
While the storylines arent too bad and the characters are good(sometimes music). I feel the combat being rather lackluster even compared to other turned based rpgs (such as smt nocturne, mana khemia, and legend of dragoon). People really overstate that the battle system is the best among turn based rpgs.
my biggest beef though, is with spm. Why do people praise its gameplay of all things? it doesnt even fly as a decent platformer rpg, as it lacks very little and not even your "partners" dont do much or add much to the game, just to solve a few things or move faster, when it comes to combat they're not really that useful.
I also dont get why the storyline is considered "good". I mean the storyline is basically dude cant get into a relationship with his chick so he must destroy the universe. Which is dumb and even worse than romantic plotlines in games such as ff8 or ToTA.
But yeah, maybe im being too serious or looking too much into it. I dont hate the franchise mind you, but i think a lot of people give too much praise to the series when they dont even attempt to look into other franchises which can do the same or even more in many cases.
