Guess who's back
Back again
Perch is back
Tell a friend

Yes, 'Shroom readers, I am officially the Ric Flair of the 'Shroom, returning to a staff job only four months after I got a nice tribute and sendoff. But circumstances happened, and who else do you wanna turn to when you need a new directing team outta nowhere but the eternal director himself? Although I haven't been Director nearly as long as Sub-Director...

Anyhow, that aside, I brought a good lineup of sections with my return, so give them a read! And there's a couple special things this month - if you want to study up for the Community Awards (or vote on them at all), that's what the Dossier is for. If you think you've got what it takes to run the Poll Committee for a year, go run in the election. And if neither of those applies to you, well... go read it anyway! C'mon, we worked hard on it. Make it worth our while!

Fan Creations / Mach Speed Mayhem (Superchao 'Shroom Section)
« on: September 22, 2018, 07:38:29 PM »
Hello, 'Shroom readers! Or people who aren't 'Shroom readers if you clicked on this thread out of curiosity! Welcome to my thread for my new section, Mach Speed Mayhem, where I intend to discuss each F-Zero character until I run out of them!

Q: Do you need a thread for this when you don't for interviews?
A: Yes I do. The reason is because this section features fan participation! There's 47 F-Zero characters for me to discuss assuming we never get a new F-Zero, and I'd have trouble picking them in an interesting order - I might as well roll dice. So, instead, you guys are going to decide the order I write them in!

Q: How, exactly?
A: That's what this thread is for. Every time I post a new section, you can post in this thread and tell me who you want me to discuss for the next section. Nominations will be open until two weeks before the release of the next issue (gives me a week to write it, which is more than enough), a date I'll make sure to include in the thread. Once they've closed, I'll pick whoever got the most support for discussion! If there's a tie, I'll do a super quick tiebreaker vote with tied characters; if nobody nominates then I'll just RNG from everyone left and feel sad.

Q: Sounds neat! Do I get to pick right away?
A: No, not yet. In order to really get a feel for this section and show you guys how I'm doing it, the October 2018 and November 2018 sections will be pre-decided characters, with December 2018 being the first character picked by readers. Additionally, if I have a fitting character for a special issue who hasn't been done yet, I'll go ahead and lock them in myself - although of course I'd tell you guys ahead of time about that.

Q: So how am I supposed to keep track of everyone who's been done so far?
A: Great question, hypothetical reader! Part of the purpose of this post is to track who I have and haven't done, to make it easier for anyone who wishes to participate. I'm including a chart I'll update with each section to cross out who I've done as I go - eventually it'll all be covered in Xs, and then the section will be over... but not for four years, so I'm good for a while. I'm also including a list of names and vehicle numbers you can crossreference so you don't have to try to remember or guess at the names. Just open the list (which is divided by rows and goes in left to right top to bottom order) and you can go "ah yes the first person in the chart is Captain Falcon"! The thread also includes a list of past sections, so that you can check back and read what I've written in the past!

Spoiler: Names and numbers (click to show/hide)

Past Sections:

Issue 138 (#07: Captain Falcon)
Issue 139 (#30: Black Shadow)
Issue 140 (#05: Samurai Goroh)
Issue 141 (#25: Blood Falcon)
Issue 142 (#10: James McCloud)
Issue 143 (#09: Mr. EAD)
Issue 144 (#15: Bio Rex)
Issue 145 (#16: The Skull)
Issue 146 (#08: Octoman)
Issue 147 (#00: Deathborn)

Thanks for reading - this is a section I'm really looking forward to seeing take off. I hope you guys can help me make this as good as I hope it will be!

The 'Shroom / Core Staff Applications (September 2018)
« on: August 18, 2018, 07:23:42 PM »
Hello, 'Shroom readers! Have we got a deal for you: two open staff positions for the price of one!

But seriously, Lord Bowser has chosen to leave Fun Stuff, and Meta Knight has chosen to depart from Strategy Wing. They'll both be seeing the September issue out before leaving, but we'll need someone to take over when they leave. That's where you come in, loyal readers!

If you would like to apply for either Fun Stuff Director or Strategy Wing Director, please send a PM to me and Meta Knight. In it, explain why you're interested in the position, why you believe you would be a good fit for the position, and some ideas you might have for the future of the Team in question. If you would like to apply for both positions, you can do so! Just specify your preference for one or the other while doing so, and we'll take that into account.

I'm looking forward to some good applications!

Come one, come all! Welcome to the Old Clockworks! Once a massive complex of industry, it was slowly converted into a proper living space... after which the company went out of business and the place fell into disrepair.

So, we did what anyone does with such mansions:

We locked 15 people in it and told you to kill each other!

Remember to follow the rules of the Killing Game as you play it. Additionally, most discussion should take place on the official discord - it's got space for everything. A general discussion room, rooms for each mansion... trust me, it's worth it!

Player List - Old Clockworks (The letter corresponds to your bedroom)
A: Shoey Turboo
B: Chibiki Daisy - Executed, Day 2
C: Fun With Despair - Executed, Day 3
D: Nabber
E: Yoshiwaker - Deceased, Night 1
F: Dupe Face
G: Luigi64DD
H: Fantanoice - Deceased, Night 3
I: rollerC - Deceased, Night 2
J: Epic Nitwit
K: Shygul - Executed, Day 3
L: Yoshi876 YoshiFlutterJump
M: Vruet
N: Roserade - Executed, Day 1
O: Mariofan - Deceased, Night 3

And of course, what's a killing game without knowing where to kill and how? Have a map! (Rooms marked with an asterisk in the list are outdoor rooms. This may be relevant to some of you!)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And of course, I've provided you method and opportunity, now we just need a motive! Your kill incentive for night 1 is...

If nobody attempts a murder tonight, every player in the Old Clockworks will be executed!

...Nah, that's old hat. Who wants to rehash the past?

Your REAL motive is: The first killer in each game will receive a special bonus after the trial concludes. No matter the outcome of the trial, it will benefit them in life and in death, but obviously, the reward will be greater if they get away with the first murder of the game!

Now get out there and start shanking each other! Night 1 ends 3 PM Eastern time, July 18th! This is a special 48 hour phase to let you get used to the map and planning around it; future nights will only be 24 hours.

Wiki Collaborations / What do we do with Super Smash Bros?
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:49:36 PM »
So, this grew out of a discord discussion brought up by Time Turner. Basically, our smash coverage is... ridiculously extensive. A bit out of hand, perhaps, for how much of that game is Mario vs. how much isn't - mainly in how every character's special move has a separate article, even those who have nothing to do with Mario otherwise. It's not really a proper crossover, compared to things like Mario & Sonic, but at the same time it's clearly more than a guest appearance or a cameo.

One thing I suggested was making Smash a special case and moderately condensing the coverage. This would make it treated differently from a crossover, guest appearance, or cameo, so we thought it would be a good idea to bring up the idea on the collaborations board before doing anything else.

Video Games / Danganronpa General Discussion Thread
« on: August 08, 2017, 07:27:21 PM »

Considering it's coming back in popularity and the newest game is coming out this year, here's a forum thread for all things danganronpa! Discuss DR1, DR2, DR3, and DR:AE! And also the danganronpa spinoff novels stuck in japan forever! Looking at you, Kirigiri.

TAG YOUR SPOILERS! This is a very spoiler-heavy franchise, and any untagged or unlabeled spoilers will likely be deleted on sight!

Entertainment & Media / Car Boys
« on: May 23, 2017, 12:58:04 AM »
What happens when you take two goofballs with a great dynamic, give them a car simulation game that has realistic physics to the point of creating terrifying, beautiful, and unrealistic results, and tell them to play it and talk about what happens?

You get this.

Car Boys is a (now-finished) series starring Nick Robinson and Griffin McElroy of Polygon as they play the vehicular body horror simulator soft-body physics simulator As the series progresses, the glitches and wild results they produce take on a life of their own and create a unique lore that's fascinating to watch in motion.

Also seeing the cars get utterly pulverized is super fun :V

I've watched the entire series and loved it, but never gotten around to recommending it to the community at large. But now I am! I highly recommend watching it, it's a great use of time and somehow manages to have a proper finale.

HelpDesk / windows 10 keeps freezing after startup
« on: April 04, 2017, 02:41:23 PM »
So when i took my laptop out of sleep mode this morning, i noticed it was a lot laggier than normal, so i restarted it. Since then, every time i start it up, it boots to the desktop fine but freezes soon after, usually when i try running a program like chrome or word. I didn't install anything last night and i didn't download anything besidews image files. Anyone got any help?

First, I'd like to deeply apologize to everyone reading the 'Shroom. I totally dropped the ball on this one, and I accept full responsibility for the heavy delay the issue suffered. I'm going to prevent this from happening again as long as I'm sub-director.

Anyhow, enjoy!

Already said everything I wanted to say in the statements, but I'll reiterate that I'm done with directing - run if you want, I won't run against you!
