If you had the choice to make the next Mario game, what would it be?

I have no idea why they're worded as "X-Nauts" when their pronunciation is "Cross Naut". I'll continue calling them "Ex Naut" because that's how they're spelled like.

While one would expect the organization's name to be pronounced "ecks-naughts", there is a reasonable amount of evidence that "cross-naughts" is more correct. In addition to the French and German translations both containing a derivative of the word "cross", the X-Yux is confirmed via Tattle as being pronounced "cross-yux". The name "cross-naughts" would also reference the game Naughts and Crosses (i.e. tic-tac-toe).

That's an X-Yux. I hear this is read as "Cross"-Yux, not as "Ex"-Yux. Anyway, this is a new Yux designed to protect extra-important areas... They were designed to be unbeatable. They're not. Max HP is 10, Attack is 3, and Defense is 1. It can produce two Mini-X-Yuxes at once. AND, it has an excellent success rate of immobilizing opponents. We gotta do something about that if we're gonna win.
 
Huh, that's interesting.

Too bad their leader has the lamest and most ridiculous Mario design ever (for a supposedly "original" villain).
 
Not to mention, he was bland as hell. I keep forgetting he's in the game, his presence is so muted that he may as well not even be there and that the Shadow Queen and Lord Crump would be the main antagonists.
 
He also instantly gets rekt by shadow Queen. Idk about you but that just degrades his image even more. Fucker doesn't even have any dignity left to himself it's pitiful really.

But I wouldn't say Shadow Queen is the main villain either. You only hear about her at the very end of the game and now "woah woah hol' up I gotta fight ya now?" And I've seen other villains requiring a sacrifice to be revived. Tbh the one person I'd really consider a main villain for this game is Crump, and well, I will say his dialogue is better written than the other two. Doesn't mean if you're still a generic enemy lieutenant that you can't have good lines. But even then, would you consider him the main villain of the entire game? Even Bowser, who is supposed to be a comic relief villain for this game appears more times than he does, that being after literally every chapter!
 
Shadow Queen is a nice twist villain and she has a pretty awesome design, that's why she's more memorable than Sir Grodus.
 
Sure. I can get behind that. I think BoneChill's design is cool too and his presence is intimidating until you deploy Luigi. FE: Sacred Stones's Final boss is also someone who looks terrifying but once you realize how easy it actually is to take him down, you start making him a laughingstock.

And for that, I'll give Shadow Queen some credit. She manages to instill fear AND retain it. She is actually tough to fight, and she can very easily screw you over. She is one of the best boss fights in the series I've seen, and she is pretty fun to fight.

You can use Mega Rushes to win really easily and consistently tho

Again story =/= gameplay and I usually wouldn't give a character extra credit because of how the battle system works. The battle system can be good, entertaining, fun, and challenging, and that's one thing, and the bosses can be cool, evil, and intimidating, and that's another thing. I've posted my VG char fav list several times on this site, and for that list I didn't take anything to do with gameplay - how the character controls, how useful they are for platforming or combat, how hard a boss fight is - how regularly they are playable, into account, just their personality, emotions, design, dialogue, and role in the plot. Music probably doesn't count either tbh.

Grodus isn't my favourite villain by any stretch, but I still appreciate his existence.

And the X-Nauts at least are from the moon, and are a strange species unlike anything in the Mushroom Kingdom, so the Shroobs could come to the moon or the X-Nauts could go deeper into space and team up and that could work somehow. I haven't played PIT myself but I know that the Shroobs were an evil alien society so that would be cool imo

Anyway I think the villains are probably the weakest part about TTYD. None of them are all that entertaining apart from Lord Crump.

Still I'd take them over what we got the following game.

Nah they were at least original and some of them were pretty cool, especially the Shadow Queen. I'd argue TTYD's biggest weakness is either its field gameplay (you don't really do all that much apart from going around and using abilities to find secrets) or its level design (a lot of the sections are boring or annoying, such as the search for General White).

Being on the GC the graphics are a bit limited too, but I've run Book of Mario: Thousands of Doors in 1080 on Dolphin with better textures and that looks pretty good.

It doesn't, but it's the kind of thing which most fans want from the series, and I'd say N did a better job of them than just re-using regular villains from the main series (Bowser, his regular minions, the Koopalings, Kamek) and giving them little to no unique presentation.

They weren't really weak or anything if you ask me, just Mario was always more powerful than they managed to be, and
Beldam was using Grodus as a means to an end the whole time, to revive the Shadow Queen who was easily able to destroy Grodus' body
 
Most fans don't actually care all that much, they just want the games to be good.

And no they aren't weak persay but they are of no real threat on their own. They aren't a massive army like the koopa troop or the shroobs and they aren't a bunch of invincible undefeatable people either.

In short they'd just be another victim of the shroobs as they would have no reason to team up with them.
 
i'd recommend cutting back on the RPG discussion or taking it elsewhere, rather than letting it completely dominate another thread that's not really about that in the first place

It's going to be most epic adventure ever with deep stories, intimate relationships, broken hearts, and random traps that'll screw you over when they feel like it.

If you play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Red Gates, you know how EMOTIONAL those stories get. Imagine that, but with Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. It would be most epic RPG ever.

Sorry I never played Pokemon besides the demo for Sun and Moon, which did not impress me.

I do value an emotional story but at the same time it has to feel like a Mario game in order for me to really love it, having two characters from Mario is not necessarily enough to make me feel that way. SPM is the least Mario-ish Mario game I ever played but we had basically the four most important Mario characters as main protagonists in that game, plus lots of Mario-ish enemies, and the gameplay was in great part based off Super Mario, finally there were lots of cool references to the first two PMs such as the Catch Cards of the partners. Also, I'd want the gameplay to be really good if it were to be the most epic MaRPG ever - something I'm not sure Pokemon's gameplay could live up to, but with my lack of experience I could be wrong.
 
The mainline Pokemon games have always been mediocre and stagnant compared to the Mystery Dungeon series.
 
are you saying that pokemon is good, or that mystery dungeon is bad? because I can kind of understand the later, even if I think they are far better then the mainline games
 
I wouldn't even rate the pokemon mystery dungeon games among the best mystery dungeon games.
 
Back on topic, another Mario game I'd make a reality if I could is a Mario vs. Donkey Kong that plays like the Game Boy and GBA games. I absolutely loved all the neat levels those games had, and really wish the series would revisit that style instead of pumping out touch screen games with the Minis every time. Maybe if the series comes to Switch, we can get this, since Switch games tend to not rely on the touch screen due to docked play.
