"Fail Awards? You want to talk about the real Fail Awards? It's the sad things you whippersnappers think pass for an award these days! Favorite Extra Mode? Back in my day, there was no such thing as extra modes! We just had the main game, and that's all we needed! Have you seen how long it takes these young'uns to make one game these days? Nevermind how much space they take up! It's ridiculous! Why, if I were in charge..."

On second thought, I may have picked the wrong person to outsource writing this year's Fail Awards opener to... Let's run this one back from the beginning.

"Oops". Now there's a word that's part of the universal human experience! If you've never made a flub or two (dozen), or hoped something would land that very much did not, well... I'd say teach me your ways, but I'm guessing there's no one in that category who also answered the question honestly. The good news is, you're in good company! Even the multi-billion dollar corporation with 45 years of experience now developing the world of the funny plumber man has its fair share of big goofs. So now it's once again time to poke them with a stick!

"And another thing, Favorite Game Mechanic? Why are we celebrating this overcomplicated nonsense? In my day, all you needed was to move left and right, jump, and climb ladders! It was perfect! Who ever got it in their skull it was a good idea to add more?"

	These recipients prove that failure is an option.

	Right you are! Although these Stars show that something doesn't have to be poorly-made to fall flat on its face!

	First in failure, we have…

	Yikes! It's any entertainer's worst nightmare! Here we have the Crowd Goes Mild Star! Horrifying!

	This Star commemorates an addition to the Awards that utterly failed to make any kind of splash, prompting the 2026 committee to remove almost all of the nominees related to it!

	That's across Mario and Fail. It's not loathed by the voters. They just didn't care about it.

	And what was met by such a resounding collective "meh"? It's none other than…

	Mario & Luigi: Brothership! Of its nine nominees across seven categories in 2025, only two managed to avoid the ravenous red bin for 2026!

	The best Brothership's nominees managed in any category was 12th place in Favorite Game (Wii U/3DS or Newer). Of categories which were retained, the best it managed was Glohm Bowser taking 15th place on Favorite Bowser Battle.

	One nominee – Technikki – even lost to a write-in! What a shocking turn of events!

	You're saying a game full of outlets failed to electrify the crowds?

	Zapamundo! It may have been a current game, but it fizzled out! A jolt to its fans, I'm sure, but don't despair! It put up resistance to sweeping the Fail Awards, so it's not all bad!

	But we can't spend the rest of the night making electrical puns! We'll ground ourselves with the next Star!

	Hoho! The night keeps rolling on smoothly! But voting didn't go so smoothly for the recipient of our next Bonus Star!

	That's right, folks, it's the Worst Performing New Nominee Star!

	This Star goes to the newly-added nominee that gathered the fewest votes!

	I already see an axe creeping into view.

	Very true, but let's not get ahead of ourselves! First, the unlucky winner…

	Everyone's favorite rhino struggled to get out of the gate on F4. Worst Game Mechanic, gathering only four votes!

Okay, I think Cranky's gone now... Phew.

Well, there you have it, another Fail Awards ceremony in the books! Will Nintendo shake things up with more Mario missteps next year? Only time will tell, and you'll have to be the judge of that. Whether that possibility is a good thing depends on if you value the quality of Mario media or interesting Awards results more. Can't say I'd blame you either way!

As we wrap this portion of the ceremony up, allow me to impart some advice since everyone else is getting sentimental. To err is to be human. We're all going to make mistakes from time to time, and not everything is going to go to plan, but we can always own up to it, learn from them, and be gracious to others. And don't let the fear of mistakes keep you from trying! This ceremony you see here, and the wonderful community that made it, is built on people putting themselves out there and giving their best shot.

I think I may have passed the sappiness quota the Fail Awards is allowed to have already, so I'll wrap it up here. The final and biggest part of our celebration is coming up, so I will see you at the Mario Awards!
