Mario 40th anniversary thread

In 40 years, he's rescued princesses, saved entire worlds and dimensions, built a polyvalent business empire based in sports, culture, and (k)arts, and learned how a meatball feels.

None of these accomplishments are enough to keep Mario clear of his mid-life crisis, for he realizes he won't take anything with him when he Boo's out of the Mushroom World.

And Mario and Luigi got a lot more adventures ahead of them as we go into their 40th year! 😄

I'm gonna be 🤓 for a second because calling it just "Mario's" 40th anniversary bothers me every time i see it. Erm, Mario's 40th was July 9, 2021, the anniversary of his debut game Donkey Kong. This is just Super Mario Bros. 40th, both Mario and Luigi already existed before that game (and Luigi's anniversary year was correctly recognized during the Year of Luigi, though they got the exact version of Mario Bros. wrong)

Really wish the misconception that the Mario franchise didn't exist before Super Mario Bros. would die out, but Nintendo doesn't help with that at all when even they seem to frame the entire franchise as starting with that game. Sure, it introduced a lot of core elements of the franchise as we know it today, but none of that changes the fact that it didn't CREATE the franchise, and that history prior to it is still frequently referenced as part of Mario's history (most notably in Odyssey's whole festival sequence, and Mario Bros. remakes existing in many mainline games) so it just makes it weirder that none of it counts towards his anniversary.

That said, I don't mind the Super Mario Bros. anniversary celebrations, I just wish they'd not be misconceived as anniversaries for Mario as a character. It's the anniversary of many things. The Mushroom Kingdom, Peach, Bowser, Toad. But not Mario himself or even Luigi. The Mario franchise & fictional universe as a whole is gonna be 45 years old next year and I'm dreading the complete silence on that (or if anything, it only gets attributed to Donkey Kong related media even though they were literally the same franchise before the DKC series)

With that out of the way, lineup looks neat so far, but where Mario Maker 3 i need Mario Maker 3

Also thought that it was kinda weird for nintendo to do the always do the anniversary about smb instead of donkey kong because that's where it all started ya know

You're right. We shouldn't be calling it Mario's 40th, we should be calling it Super Mario's 40th.
