Mario Tennis Fever (Nintendo Switch 2)

While we're on the topic, I wonder if Baby Daisy and Baby Rosalina will crawl their way into the game too. They weren't in the intro of course, but you never know...

Speaking of Baby Waluigi, I find it interesting that acceptance for the character is pretty good, in that there aren't as many people who express disdain for him. Even considering him one of the highlights in the first reveal. Waluigi's certainly gone a long way where he's a major presence in the franchise, despite being the one that gets the most bias against his inclusion.
I sure think all adult characters in this franchise like DK, Funky and Birdo should introduce their baby form.

As I said before, the bigger problem is still that charatcers like Waluigi didn't have a proper background story to tell where he came from, nor did he and Daisy debuted as "star children" in Yoshi series. Baby form itself isn't a bad thing, but all babies should make debut somewhere else except for Baby Rosalina due to her story restriction.

Other than that, the remaining question would be whether massive babies would occupy the roster, it entirely depends on whether we would also get a big amount of normal newcomers next to them.
It's so weird that we haven't heard a single thing about this game besides the reveal trailer, and it arrives next month.
I feel like the current concern is there is no much news to differentiate Fever from Tennis due to mechanics and roster being similiar. Sure we need more reveals to at least confirm it comes with huge expansion more than just a poor port job.

Aces did at least introduce new characters from the start... albeit a lot more were churned out slowly.

Nintendo finally acknowledged Fever in a social media post for the first time since... what? The trailer? Either way, it might be the sign of things to come...

Not mean to show disrespect to Baby Wario bros, but in this case it sure feels weird to only have one baby girl out of all when in the case of Kart it is 2 boys 3 girls. On this basis I feel like Baby Waluigi should debut in Kart while Baby Rosalina is brought to Tennis instead, since she has the biggest need to receive baby magic among the main cast.

While we know technically it's owing to budget, but storywise, again doing this story troupe would easily lead to the question "why only specific adult characters get turned into kids?" and would rather work worse than those spinoffs that don't have stories, since past spinoffs don't need to make up weak canon excuses to explain why some babies aren't here.

As for general roster, it's not too far from Kart 8 that only adding very specfic type of newcomers is a boring move. Either the copies get special prices or attracitve newcomers are in DLCs could they convince fans to buy, basically just like Kart World.

I can see where you're coming from. Moving on to playable rosters, what's your thoughts on if a Baby Pauline character was created? I honestly would like to see that happen in the future.

That's basically the answer. For the base, it's safe to conclude that babies yet again are put in the hate target when Nintendo don't want to do enoguh newcomers.

But somehow that explains why Tennis doesn't get much promotion this time as Nintendo absolutely know the change isn't big enough to be put in major advertising.

Oh my god they did it

Also we can finally take down the conjecture template on the Baby Waluigi page lmao

I wonder how Baby Waluigi is a Defensive character without his adult counterpart's long limbs? Maybe he has better slides than everyone else?

Step it up, whatever new triple AAA experience that is going to release later this year, idk what it is, Elden Ring 2 or Divinity 3 or GTA VI or whatever, we got a serious GOTY contender right here right now.

Pay attention Geoff Keighley and mainstream games outlets.....

JUST LOOK AT HIM. LOOK AT BABY LUIGI. He's in a TENNIS OUTFIT and he IS BEATinG up BOSSES like KING HISSTOCRAT with BABY MARIO WHILE PLAYING TENNIS.

HOW IS THAT NOT THE MOST BRILLIANT THING TO EVER HAPPEN? HUH???? HUH??

Maybe he can riff on Baby Mario and Baby Luigi's disgusting reach in Mario Sports Superstars, that he has MUCH better reach than his size indicates, but it's much more pronounced in this game.

I always ponder as to why in certain games baby characters tend to coexist with their original counterparts... Works well when it's time travel or a flashback, but when it's just "baby character exists with the other", that's when things start to get salty.

Well that's part of their appeal!

I am going to make a prediction here and say that Baby Bowser is also going to show up... as a Bowser Jr. alt. This stems from how unique characters are playable despite being alternate versions of existing ones, namely Lumalee being there. This is the kind of plot that can justify both Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. to appear together, and I hope they do that for fun.

Thank you for reading.

That worked under the Partner in Times where babies are treated as independent characters.

But in the case of story of Fever, they're straight up alts and make an awful excuse to rob chances from other unique characters in a roster.

Another problem is, this time the babies are still the adults inside, but baby fans might want actual babies with baby souls. It's not necessarily cute to have an adult disguise as kid outside storytelling.

If baby magic doesn't serve mostly positive benefit for the game, I feel like they should just summon the real babies from the past again in Fever story.

screw those characters in all honesty

baby fan here I like it when Baby Luigi is playable don't care about story reasons

For god's sake this is a story about cartoon plumbers and a princess being transformed into babies and having to learn to play tennis to save the world.

Well I said that above, the story might still work if the real babies are here to take the charge.

Also in the previous reply, I was talking about gameplay. If babies are entirely a type of transformation rather their their own individual, that would be straight up like having Tanooki Mario back in Mario Kart 8.

As a fan of Partners in Time, not quite agree with that.

I would like to see adult Mario bros interact with their past more often or see how the babies grow up in new stories.

People like babies. Its not rocket science.

Doesn't conflict with proper storytelling tho. You don't have to sacrifice that for this.

Or could even say it'd be more direct to introduce real baby or underage characters as regulars so they can be more frequently seen and Mario has to be babysitter from time to time, if they believe this is a good way to appeal targeted family gamers. They can even be replacement for hostage after Peach retires from that role.

In Nintendo's mind, they went with alterego likely because they want babies to deeply associated with the brand and main heroes. Altho it's arguable to still introduce other underage characters who're never invited to sport races.

Again not that alterego babies are necessarily bad, but I'm more dissapointed with not making use of Yoshi series and Partner in Time.

it's a tennis game in a series where they fought an evil tennis racket and a giant snowman as the primary antagonist of the golf game

Mario doesn't really consider storytelling a priority.

The lore doesn't matter for party spinoffs like this. My most-wanted character is canonically deceased and I don't think that should matter for the purposes of a roster like this at all. (He has enough actual hurdles as it is with how the company seems to operate)
