Mario Kart World

Characters shouldn't be cut, period. They're charging 80 fucking dollars for this.

To be clear, I never said I didn't like the addition of the enemies to the roster, I was just saying I wanted a reason for their inclusion.
I don't think they really are in need of reason. They can include Fawful in Mario Kart if they really wanted to. This is the series that had a sponsorship to include the Mercedes Benz GLA. From a big picture standpoint, I just think they want to surprise people with the unorthodox roster.

Well, if they had only added like 5 randos and some other newcomers (that aren't generics), that would've been fine. It's the fact that there are this many plus them being the only newcomers that we have gotten confirmed so far that's concerning. If this is all we're gonna get then that's gonna be a big problemo.

...But, if they bring back those characters that he mentioned in post #121 I won't be so mad about these rando's being included.

I don't understand the notion that the enemy/species inclusions are worse than the babies and metals. Their designs are wholly their own, not iterative on that of another character already on the roster. That alone gives them more merit than Pink Gold Peach, Baby Daisy/Rosalina, and Tanooki Mario/Cat Peach as separate characters (the latter two are better as alts). Baby Mario, Luigi and Peach I can understand, as they were conceived prior to their Mario Kart appearance and therefore can be seen as representation for the games they previously appeared in (though I still say that's better off being Yoshi's Island DS for Baby Peach rather than Partners in Time, which would ideally be represented by a design AlphaDream created for that game like a Shroob)

Are these species inclusions what I would've picked? No, but they're harmless, and there's a handful of popular picks in there too like Pianta and Goomba. And even obscure ones that haven't had a proper appearance in over a decade, like Cataquack. And I still don't think we've seen the full roster, I'm hoping the Direct shows off more characters that are a bit more in line with the kind of stuff fans predict or request.

Eh... They should've just added the 5 most recognizable enemies/NPCs like the ones FTG mentioned. Characters like Goomba, Pianta, and Piranha Plant are fine. But they literally had to stuff the roster with almost every known species to ever exist, most of whom feel like random nobodies or "literally who?"

As for the babies/metals, I don't know how to explain it but somebody on GameFAQs did explain pretty much how I feel:

Maybe as an extension of their base character. I love Peachette because Toadette is already my favorite character and they just went and made her even cuter. PGP I can't see and if anything would be better served as a costume, but I can see someone preferring it to random generics because she's still Peach

That bolded part particularly. Peach isn't a nobody. Having alternate versions of her isn't as bad as some cow, bee, bone fish (literally who? / random nobody type characters).

Sigh, fine if this is what you guys want and what makes you happy, then how nice for y'all.

This just isn't the ideal roster for me and I guess that I'm upset/disappointed that I'm potentially gonna lose Peachette and Pink Gold Peach to these generics. They even bothered to keep stinkin Baby Rosalina (as a separate character, no less) which feels like adding salt to the wound because why is she getting special treatment over PGP when they're on the same level of importance, or whatever. They should be a package deal, both were added to Mario Kart 8 as completely made up characters.

Anyways...
I remember a topic that Michaeloll (yes, that Michaeloll) made on GameFAQs like 10 years ago on either the Mario Party 10 or Mario Tennis Ultra Smash board, where he talked about how adding more random enemies doesn't mean a better roster...I think he said that cause Spike felt like a really random addition in Mario Party 10, and the Mario Party series adding enemy characters to its rosters like Dry Bones, Hammer Bro, Blooper, and the recent Spike isn't all that great.
Yeah, I definitely agree with that now. They went overboard with it in this game and these random enemies really do not make a better roster, but rather worse. I'd rather that they stick to the important/major/big name characters than these obscure, no-name, unpopular, unfamous... (I could go on, but you get the point)

When you think it over, the way that Mario Kart World's roster is being handled is basically Nintendo's way of responding back to the people whom felt that Mario Kart 8's character additions were wasteful. If you think that the Koopalings, Baby Rosalina, and Pink Gold Peach are wasted slots, they're nothing when compared to the amount of joke generics that Mario Kart World is throwing at people.

I mean, these are all characters they had to model for the track hazards anyway so I'd argue they're not wastes of significant development time.
Maybe not, and it also helps the (so-called) Magikoopa Orb feel more interesting; not only does it spawn a certain generic enemy, but it can also temporarily transform racers into that very enemy. The one thing that I do have to question, however, is whether or not there's going to be more than one way to unlock the generic enemy characters (instead of always having to play the game of luck with the Magikoopa Orb).

You know, I actually thought of that too. This is what people complaining about the metals, babies, and koopalings gets us...Now we have characters that are original, but are random nobodies and are characters of the lowest quality, which is arguably worse than what we had before. I feel like the MK8 newcomers are more harmless than the joke generics. This is overkill.

Worst part is, if the fans actually like these characters and give Nintendo their approval, it's only gonna make them think that they did a good thing and keep making rosters like this full of random generics. 🙄

I'd sooner have had Baby Pauline be added than the likes of Coin Cuffer, Bone Fish, Sidestepper...

I've seen a bit of backlash about the newcomers, but I honestly don't mind them! Although I will admit that there were definitely better enemies already in the game that could've been repurposed as drivers rather than stuff like Fish Bone or Stingby. A playable Tokotoko or Sumo Bro would have been dope.

Most of these characters were modeled in like a single day, tops. It's the animations that took the most development time.

We've always had generics, Koopa, and Toad. It makes my heart happy to see my girl Biddybud burning rubber (makes me want to go back to my original username!). Generics as we're calling them, make up the Marioverse, they're an essential part of it all, and it's an honor to get to play as them from time to time. It's what made baseball so good.

Direct soon. Hinging bets on Petey Piranha and King Bob-omb being bosses you unlock by defeating them in Free Roam/Campaign mode or something.

The game looks pretty neat buttttt

WHERE ARE THE KOOPALINGS

I think they'll be here; prolly amongst the minimum 30 unrevealed characters.

No mentions of DLC either, right?

Wow, not a single character we didn't already know about, yet they still had a "characters" section just to mess with us.

I think it's strange for some people to even think about it. The gameplay footages don't really mention they're trial versions or locked versions. If they are indeed, of course the possibility exist.

So the most important problem here is whether it worthes 80 USD by the amount of contents.
