Mario Kart World

video games are more expensive outside the usa so now americans get to experience that 'joy' as well :^)
 
Holy crap 80 bucks for Mario Kart?! That's borderline insane. For comparison, 8 Deluxe is 60 dollars, meaning that there's a twenty dollar increase just for a new title!

Nintendo, I love you as a game developer and publisher, but man your business practices are freaking awful

This game better blow Mario Kart 8 Deluxe out of the water in terms of content to justify the high price point.
 
I can't be certain if that's intention or a coincidence. The neckband being spiky red and the sunglasses, I can see as maybe intentional, but on the other hand, they don't go all the way in like they should when referencing things and even give him the same colored shoes and it could easy pass off as a coincidence as a generic biker outfit that just so happen to share some features.

their 'justification' is that mario kart is one of their premier franchises tbh

some people are saying the switch 2 is set up to be a 3DS-like stumble at launch because of the MKW price (plus the switch 2 price being $450) but honestly? nah.

like the reason why the 3DS stumbled at launch wasn't because it was $250 vs the $150 that the DS was at the time but because it had like...jack shit from nintendo and third-parties at launch.

as much as i hate the $80 price day for MKW, if that was all nintendo had at launch, i'd still say it was a better launch than the 3DS because all nintendo shat out for that was pilotwings resort, nintendogs + cats, and steel diver.

mario kart is a system seller.
 
okay don't abbreviate mario kart world as "mkw" people, i already got confused when people said "oh they're doing mkw footage" and i was like "nintendo is re-releasing mario kart wii on the switch???"
 
I also just want a reason for all the generic enemies and NPCs being playable (minus Koopa, Hammer Bro, Wiggler, Chargin' Chuck, and Monty Mole) and taking up almost half of the roster when we could have gotten characters like:

The Koopalings
Metal Mario/Pink Gold Peach
Diddy Kong
Funky Kong
Dry Bowser
Petey Piranha
Peachette
RPG characters
WarioWare characters
 
I don't mind the off-the-wall choices like a Dolphin being playable but yeah, I'd like a bit of balance between the goofy stuff and actual characters.

Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled has a few off the wall roster picks (King Chicken, the Crate, Rilla Roo, Hasty), but mainly has characters that have been playable before in the franchise or have a real reason to be on the roster apart from just being a filler pick.

also unrelated, just because characters aren't in a trailer doesn't necessarily mean they won't be in the game.

Cataquack is playable, and maybe Pokey too. Pokey in the official game art may have a kart behind DK's tie, or it could be an enemy. Three potentially playable characters so far (Goomba as well) that have no arms.

There might be a character unlock/purchase system like in the Crash Team Racing series, but with ingame, non microtransaction money. $80 + whatever the console may be ($450 is something I saw) should keep those away I hope. Maybe getting enough coins, gold trophies, finishing modes, etc. would unlock characters and new vehicles?

Also wall riding and rail grinding AND waterskiing I think? They are really going all out today. Can't wait for April 17th for the next direct
 
Alright, here's my wishlist/predictions for this game because I love it

- Costumes are selectable from the menus; I really shouldn't have to add this but I'm worried that the yummy yummy burger is the only way you'll be able to race with costumes. Can't be how it goes. Say it isn't so. As I hoped, yes, they are selectable.
- Special Cup is unlockable; Noticed Special Cup wasn't there. It's gotta be there somewhere. It's gotta be.
- No Paid DLC for this game for a while; It's costing $80. I'd say we're in the free update lane for a little bit.
- At least one character where their costumes are different characters; Like with Bowser Jr. in Smash Bros., I expect one character to be a sort of combination character if my first point is right, so please, please have it be the Super Mario Kart sprites of all the characters from that game.
- Boshi's the only RPG representation here; I'd love to be wrong on this. I'd love so badly to get a whole set of Paper Mario characters, Super Mario RPG characters, Mario & Luigi, and even non-RPG games like Odyssey with Cappy. Please tell me I'm wrong in 2 months. Please tell me I'm wrong when we get a Booster Course Pass-like.
- 55/60 Drivers; We've gotten 50 drivers so far I think, so they're probably gonna round it off at 55 or 60. Or they just stop at 50. Who knows
- Donkey Kong Bananza representation; It's gonna happen. 3DK was a big highlight, so I don't expect it to not have anything here. Even just DK in overalls.
- Metal Mario is a standalone character; Come on Nintendo, he's so cool. Give it to him. He's been nice.
