I would sacrifice Dr. Mario, Dark Pit and Lucina if it meant we got another original moveset character, Snake, new Ganon moveset, Ridley, anyone. This is Sakurai going quantity over quality, which sucks.

I noticed that many Smash fans have called Melee > Brawl due to the gameplay, even though Brawl is considered to have the best character roster in the series, and Melee's roster was basically half clones.

It seems sakurai isn't about quality vs. quantity, but rather gameplay vs. roster. He worked heavily on the gameplay since many people complained about it in Brawl, and he spent a lot more time on the gameplay and balancing out the characters rather than the character additions themselves.

Still, why exactly do people want Ridley? Other than Metroid being underrepresented and having another villain? Or Mewtwo's return?

1. Ridley is a major character that would have fit right in despite what naysayers say.
2. Mewtwo was the only original character to be cut from Melee.

I really don't stand the appeal. But it's sad that people are criticizing the roster now just because 2/3 characters that wanted did not get in, and that 3 clones out of the 48 characters (a 6% of the roster) did, even though characters like Robin, Shulk, Greninja, DHD, Villager, Rosalina, and Palutena got in, as well as the fact that this is the first game to ever have Mario, Sonic, Pac-Man, and Mega-man in it all together in one game.

This shows that Sakurai doesn't just do what the fans want. I kind of respect him for that, though I definitely feel for the people that didn't get the character they wanted.

Like I said, I think that the roster's great. I like every character except for one (and I may end up liking him too if he plays well). It should just be said that there were some odd exclusions.
