The creators seem like they were running out of ideas. This is just a poor idea for a character. They could of instead had somebody else like Para-Troopa, Boo, or maybe even Petey Piranha. Just don't add in an uncreative Robot Mario guy that doesn't even look like an official Mario character.

You don't even know Robo's Mario's purpose. He's an NPC

I find Toad annoying only because of his voice. I liked him during the Nintendo 64 days where his voice wasn't raspy and ear-pain inducing.

NPC or not, that is still a very poor concept for a Mario character. He makes Blizzarus or whoever that wannabe pokemon reject is look like real magic.
