Unpopular opinions about the Mario series

DKC1 is the worst DKC game. Too many cave levels, many bonus rooms were cryptic as hell and/or required suicide jumps, has the least content. I still love it though.

Yeah, that's the way it usually goes with first time games in a series; In many ways, it's iconic, but usually isn't as recognized as its sequel, which is often times superior.

Super Mario Bros 1 is my favorite game of the NES trilogy. It's simple, no world maps, just action, just the right length. The castle maze levels are bad, a few too many are too similar, but overall, it's fun if you don't hold down the run button all the time. It's the one I come back to the most, when I try to replay the others, I tend to fall off a quarter of the way in.

SUPER MARIO BROS. SPECIAL IS ACTUALLY REALLY FUN EVERYONE ELSE ARE JUST COWARDS AND THEY SHOULD CRY INTO AND MARRY THEIR COPIES OF NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. U IF THEY LOVE OBJECTIVELY GOOD VIDEO GAMES SO MUCH

...okay, uh, maybe not that extreme on the last part, we're obviously playing it up for a bit. :P

But still! We do genuinely love Super Mario Bros. Special. We dunno! Call it stockholm syndrome after having to write over half its level pages! We genuinely had a blast playing it for the wiki and the weird jank to it all added to our enjoyment of it, if you can believe it! While it's obviously not for everyone, we would still call it a must-play for people either playing weird obscure Mario games, weird obscure platformers, or just trying to play as many Sharp X1/PC-88 games as they can.

I miss the sports genre of games, its getting real stale with all the platformers we are getting nowadays. (No wonder why people turned to Sonic and Sega during the console wars) I mean, we do have the Olympics games, but it's not better than sports series.
  • We need something else besides platformers, It's getting VERY OLD & STALE. Like I state with my previous opinion, I hate the fact We are currently only receiving platformers, racing/go-kart and the party games. Why don't we have something like a dating simulator or quiz game?(Or maybe the return of the edutainment games)

I love Mario sports games and they're probably the reason I'm in the series. I'm bored of the constant sequels, I'm bored of the constant platformers, I'm bored of the constant RPGs, I want new genres or new sports games explored.

I only like the babies when they were in the Yoshi's Island series
I hate to be the devil's advocate, but I do find the babies annoying, not cute

There's a decent amount of sports and party games this generation but, while solid, all of them were lacking, usually content (Super Mario Party), game options (Super Mario Party Jamboree, Mario Party Superstars, Mario Tennis Aces) or both (Battle League, Mario Golf Super Rush). Though Mario + Rabbids was cool, same for Mario vs DK co-op, the slog of this generation of Nintendo, year after year, failing to deliver on these games and relying on dripfeed practices (compounded with strong sales in spite of this) and lack of new offerings contributed to my declining my interest in the Mario series. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Super Paper Mario was a mid game when it came out and it's still a mid game today.

The later Paper Mario games being outright poo does not somehow retroactively make SPM one of the 'great' Paper Mario games alongside the original and TTYD.
I agree, Super Paper Mario is definitely mediocre at best when compared to the first two Paper Mario games, and while it's only slightly better than the three Paper Mario games that followed, it's still mediocre.
