    Really, more accurate names such as "Current Sonic" "Present Sonic" don't have the same ring as "Modern Sonic". There's a cool factor to "Modern".

    Perhaps it'd be appropriate to call the Sonic from 1991-1998 "Classic Sonic", the one from 1998-2006 "Dreamcast Sonic", the one from 2006-2017 "Modern Sonic", and the one from 2017-present "Post-Modern Sonic", since Sega has been "trying" to take the character in a whole other direction from Forces onward.

    The joke here is the Switch 2, which has only been out for a few months, hasn't yet matched the lifetime sales of the Wii U. With the different length of time on the market and the Switch 2 not yet having entered a holiday season, despite selling 10 million units to date, it hasn't yet reached the 13 million and change of the Wii U. Quite likely will pass it soon, though, on its trajectory.
