When don't 1up mushrooms work?

You'll need to grab 1-Ups BEFORE you die or else it'll have no effect.
 
1-Up Mushrooms don't work when you're playing Mario Superstar Baseball in Toy Field and no one catches that damn ball anyway.
 
wow, ok. first of all, boos and dry bones are living in their own right, they are doing their best.



second, if they wanted 1up mushrooms they could eat them fine. but they are too plain and dont have enough spices, because no one in the mushroom kingdom knows how to properly cook 1up mushrooms, so they refuse to eat them because they are bland.
 
Boos and Dry Bones will accept only the choicest of Cream of Mushroom soups. In other words, no Campbell's.
 
dry bones have developed immunity to 1-Up mushrooms as an evolutionary mechanism to remain top tier in mario kart

Unless it's SMB 1 where the lives counter overflows and goes into the negatives
