The 'Shroom / Re: The "Who Actually Reads My Section?" Thread
« on: January 20, 2019, 08:45:16 PM »
Even for Dear Anton I struggled to get questions sent to my inbox, and I often had to scrounge for them.  I did have a few regulars, but beyond that I would just barge into chat and be like "hey I'm doing [whatever theme] for [whatever month] someone ask me questions" and just lowkey bug people.  The 'Shroom is active and a big part of the community, but it's not something large enough for individual sections to be the primary focus of the rest of the community to participate in by their own volition and wake up one day with "hey I should send in responses for this call-to-action this one writer posted at the end of his bit", which absolutely isn't a problem, but sometimes gentle prodding is needed.

Not so much a question as it is a statement with a call for acknowledgment, but as prospective Directors and freshmen staff members, are you aware of the role the Shroom Director plays in Anniversary events, namely the Community Awards polls, and would you be prepared to include that in the list of responsibilities?  If not fully aware, as is likely, would you be ready to accept and learn the tasks, participation requirements, and deadlines?

I enjoy that you're using images and seem to be playing with formatting to make a more visually appealing section, but it's hard to give a solid and complete opinion on the section as a whole because it seems to shift style a bit each time; I'm guessing you're just trying to find a good footing and voice?  I suggest perhaps being more mindful of the spacing between sections, maybe by inserting an extra <br> at the end of a part just to make sure that the pictures and tables don't look too scrunched up.  You can also try using more eye-grabbing hooks within the text body so the readers' eyes aren't drawn more to the images and not much to the text; this would be stuff as simple as some external links for a reference, or linking to a page right on the wiki, breaking into smaller paragraphs for emphasis or organization, or even adding a bold or italicized word here or there to break up a block of text.  [[Super Mario Odyssey]] rather than just Super Mario Odyssey is enough to just make the text blue and grab the reader's focus, while also providing them some source of external information that they can easily transfer to should they want to.  It also makes you look well-researched ;)  Furthermore, in those tables you don't really need a separate row to provide the wiki page, as you can just do that right in the header.  Keep up with the writing style!  It's wordy, but not exhaustively so, and provides ample information and setting that provides someone like me who doesn't know a lot about this a bit more fun facts about stages and stuff.

Also perhaps a fun idea would be to open up suggestions on courses to review, or try to lob in a few themed months every now and then.  I definitely understand that feedback and suggestions can be scarce at times, so I wouldn't rely on course suggestions, but, _, could be a neat little bit of community interaction.

Thanks for your support in the hotly contest Awards Director election!  Turb and I are looking forward to working on next year's events while we use up the next month and a half casually planning the schedule and other thingies.

Burger King Halloween Gimmicks
I was hungry and out in public so I got these because I heard about them in the news about how they make your poop green.  You can only get these through November 1st so if this inspires you to participate in capitalism then you've got just a few hours left!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Nightmare King
This burger has been advertised as "clinically proven to induce nightmares" which is  That's kind of a stupid thing to say as it literally doesn't, and if it did would be irresponsible.  "Burger King says it put the burger to the test and worked with the Paramount Trials and Florida Sleep & Neuro Diagnostic Services to conduct a sleep study. (...) According to previous studies, 4 percent of the population experiences nightmares in any given night,” said Dr. Jose Gabriel Medina, the study’s lead doctor, in a statement. “But, after eating the Nightmare King, the data obtained from the study indicated that the incidence of nightmares increased by 3.5 times."  I guess I'll update you all on that.  I get that it's Halloween and meant to be scary but just advertise it as turning your poop different colors since that's what people are buying it for.  The burger consists of "a quarter pound of flame-grilled beef, a white meat crispy chicken fillet, melted American cheese, thick-cut bacon, creamy mayonnaise and onions on a glazed green sesame seed bun."  Nothing really too different from one of their other standard menu items aside from the green bun.  Please refer to my review this month to see me complain about this cop-out.  Of course, I requested no mayo.  It tastes pretty good, and like genuine food, which is already more than I was expecting, but it is surprisingly large.  Due to the size alone I would say it's almost worth the price of like $6+, I don't remember.  The green is very unimpressive, though, and just looks more like a concern for the Health Department more than anything spooky.

Frozen Fanta Scary Black Cherry
It sure tasted like cherry, and even felt like it was carbonated; as if they just filtered cherry fanta through a slushie machine and added in a bunch of thick dye.  This was less 'cough medicine cherry' and more '3 year old jolly rancher excavated from between the back seat cushions of the family caravan cherry', which was ok because it was sweet and flavorful enough to serve as a pairing with a meal instead of as a standalone dessert treat--McDonald's, take note.  Details on whether this has any digestive magic are pending; inquire if you dare :boo:

I have an idea on what I want to spend my remaining coins (so I will have a balance of less than 5), which consists of 2 items, but that depends on if my turn comes up.

Thank you for reading.

I'm open to hearing what you'd like and I can see if we can do it.

If there is anyone else who has not gone yet, whether due to skipping, missing your turn, or otherwise, now is your last chance to select a prize.  In a couple days I will close this and honor every remaining selection, and then have this board closed.

lgm is next, then fwd and packy

Once we go through them, our list is complete.  I'll give everyone who was skipped over or otherwise like a day or two to change their mind, along with if anyone else needs to do anything else with this board before I request Porple to close it.

Soon :wario:
